  • Summer storage

We usually tow our Imagine 2600RB home from Florida but this year we have decised to leave it here in storage. I was wondering if there is a check list or does someone have hints for storing in a hot sunny climate.
    We do have a cover.

Definitely disconnect the negative cable from the battery after ensuring it is fully charged.

Make sure all the water is drained from the camper to minimize growth of nastiness in the plumbing. Don't forget about the water heater. I remove the low point drain plugs and use a wet/dry vac (set to blow) and then open one faucet at a time forcing air (and any trapped water in the lines) to go down and out the low point drains. There's always evidence of water on the ground out of the low point drains when I do this after the initial draining with just gravity.

As I live in NW Florida and my 315RLTS sits outside 24/7, the most damage will come from the sun (UV). Consider waxing or having it done professionally (even with a cover). Covering the tires, too, to protect them from UV is also something many people do.

A cover is helpful, but if not done right can actually cause more damage if the sun causes the cover to fray and then flap around in a thunderstorm. Is there someone who can check on the unit occasionally to ensure the cover's integrity? Many people use pool noodles to protect the corners or other sharp edges.

I would suggest that you put some of the damp rid products inside to keep the humidity at bay while it is all closed up, even leave the fridge door open if you can. If you have covers on the roof vents, like the Max air cover, then you could leave them open a little to allow air circulation. Disconnecting the battery cable/cables is a good idea as well, mentioned above. Make sure the propane cylinders are off. Clean everything well so there is no food residue for critter to be tempted with. Check for outside penetration points, around the slide mechanisms, block what ever you find with some fine steel wool, helps keep lizards out as well.

When returning sanitize the water system, attach the battery and away you go, if the battery is still charged.

Thanks for the info. I understand about draining all the line & the grey tanks and fresh water tank but do I leave anything in the black tank? If winterizing I'd use antifreeze.
I have corner covers for the rain spouts that go on under the cover for protection. I also have tire covers and ladder cushion.
We do not have anyone to check on the camper we are the only ones in the family that like the East Coast of Florida, Ft Pierce, Jensen beach area.
I do have Max vent covers but if I leave these open even a crack doesnt that cancel out the dampex inside?
        Ha, never though about Lizards!!

You can leave 5 or 10 gallons in each of the holding tanks, this will not hurt anything and help dissolve any solids. Leaving the vents open would cancel the dampex, I was just thinking of air movement, not sure which would be best.

I visited my dad in February a few years back and brought some things home from his shed, there were a quite a few lizards in the shed and the few that made the trip home with me did not like the cold.

If you have access to at least a 15A 120VAC plug, I would suggest getting a dehumidifier and leave it running. Get one that can drain by gravity into a sink or the shower. You can set it on 50% - 55% humidity and it will prevent mold from forming in the unit. Also make sure everything is totally clean inside. NO food storage or crumbs to attract bugs. Might want to spray a long acting insect killer on the underbelly and anywhere there is a opening in the floor.
