  • Silicone/caulk remover

    Hello all...
This spring I'm planning to do some taillight mods, which will require removing/re-installing the vertical trim at the back corners of my unit. Is there a "best product" to remove the silicone without harming the paint?

You also might want to consider lacquer thinner. I've used Lacquer Thinner when removing stain from wood (easier than sanding and it brings up the grain). It will evaporate and not leave an oily residue.

There's no wiring under those trim pieces--at least not under my 315RLTS'. I suspect you are going down the same road I tried and what you'll find is there is no room or method to run wires back there.

You might damage the mylar sealant GD applies between the camper and the trim to keep out water when the trim is removed. (They tout the fact they don't use butyl tape.) Proceed with caution!

I had a piece of trim damaged by road debris so I took it off to take a peek underneath. Here's a shot under the trim:

          howson -- Thank you.
I recalled reading one thread about the corner trim. Post 14 in the thread you linked reminded me to consider running under the rubber strip covering the screws, rather than under the corner trim itself.

I'd be careful with lacquer thinner. It will denature and/or destroy most plastics and fiberglass.

                  Very nice chart!

Many years ago when I used to paint cars as a hobby, I used products like this to prep the body before sanding. Remove the majority with a plastic razorblade or scraper, then with some elbow grease, use the silicon body prep to remove the remaining film.
