TucsonJim thanks for the detailed info. I am doing this repair and was about to order the same skylight you used, but I saw quite a few reviews that the skylight cracked within a year of installation. How has yours worked out?

Bob. Both of mine have been through two Arizona summers now, and are still in great shape. Just make sure you don't over torque the screws which can cause a stress point and potential cracking.

I think spreading the pressure is a great idea. I'd certainly consider that if I was doing it again. As far as screw length, you could use 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" with no problems. There is a lot of room in that area and longer screws shouldn't be an issue.

I am having trouble finding self tapping screws for this job. I did find these hex head screws with a washer head. Any reason not to use these?
