  • Dometic tops in customer service - sticking awning fix

Ill give kudos to my brother for this. We were comparing trailers when he visited and when he was setting up I noticed how smooth his awning came away from the trailer. He has the same Dometic 9100 series we have. I was telling him about mine binding at the bottom and popping open. He showed me a spring bumper stop at the bottom of his backing channel (screw hole is there) and indicated Dometic just gave them to him. So Saturday I sent an email inquiring about these bumper springs as I do have the issue of bottom binding and popping out. I was going to open up the channel a bit.

This morning (Monday) about 10AM mountain time (9AM Dometic time) I see and email with and invoice attachment (thought it was spam as I had not ordered anything) so ran it through the virus check and when declared clean I opened it. OMG Dometic has shipped two of the bumper stops to me FREE. No correspondence, just quick action. Talk about customer service.

    The part is as follows
    Item number 3310777.000
KIT, BUMPER, ARM SKU # 9108719990 2 sent

Now I just got to thinking - this binding on opening at the bottom could have had something to do with the screws stripping.

When I get them I will post photos and let folks know how they work.

    Have a great week folks
    Keith

What comes in it. I did not use the rivets, and the screws were too short so I used some longer ones I happen to have, The rubber rings have two holes in them. On small one for the screw and a larger on to get a screwdriver through. Big hole faces out - don't ask

I used an existing hole that was already in the back channel. Its down 5" from the strut joint. After doing this the awning operation coming of the trailer is definitely quicker and smoother - no scraping noise, and when retracted is tighter - no rattles. I also verified that I did the instillation correctly with Dometic. Shawn responded that I had.

        Yoda,
So, do these come with a new awning, and not being installed by GD on our Trailers, or are they more after market kit?
I also wonder, if these would help the slamming during retracting and pulling off of the rail's from the trailers that have been reported.

You know Steve I don't know about these being OEM and not installed. Shawn Stevenson might be able to answer that.. I believe it would help withe slamming when retracting. Not sure on the pulling off the rail, but I have a thread on rail repair going. With less slamming I am sure there would be less stress on the screws.
Hope this helps The Dometic folks are great to talk to.
          Hope this helps - Keith

        Keith,
I sent a Email to Dometic. And they have one in the mail to me, free of charge. Thank You Dometic, Sarah (If it works well, I will purchase another one for the Dinette Awning.)
I did explain the slamming during retracting and they felt this bumper kit would help this slamming, Stress.
Thanks for this tip on this kit. And yes, I have been following your install. The sad news, my 5er is sleeping for the winter, and the way it is in the barn, I can not even install them.
