  • EternaBond RoofSeal Discusion - what is really needed?

Got to reading a few posts on the use of EternaBond RoofSeal Their home page https://www.eternabond.com/RoofSeal-p/rv-rs.htm

In reading most post don't mention the primer and the cleaned with rubbing alcohol rather that the eternabond cleaner.

Tape -is 4" wide the recommended width to have on hand? what about length? Is 50" enough? I am putting together a kit to travel with me.

    Walmart is a bit cheaper
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/4-WHITE-E...Seal/212479488

I ran across this kit - price is OK - you get the roller free the way it prices out. https://www.amazon.com/Eternabond-Re...ct_top?ie=UTF8 But do I need everything?

So of you can please enplane what I really need and point me to a few good videos on the install - YouTube is all over the place on install instructions with everyone doing something different. I would like to know the correct way if I ever need ti use it,

    Thanks

Yoda , for me the EternaBond has always seemed to be pretty expensive. I did run across a similar item on Home Depot

Works on TPO and is 4" x 25 ft Same 15 year warranty.

Interesting - Have you or anyone used it? Its a 25' role so close to the Walmart 50' one. Thanks for finding it.

Yoda , there is also the Alpha tape (https://store.lci1.com/alphabond-tpo...tape-3-50.html) that looks to be similar to EternaBond tape. I've never have had to use either (thankfully) but could be something to look into. I only found this out recently when our dealer finally started carrying the Alpha/Lippert roof sealants.

I have used the Eternabond once. When the RV was stored outside we had it covered thru the winter. In the spring when we removed the cover, the first dry day to get it off, I noticed a crack in the roof sealant on the back corner of the roof. Rain was coming in and there was no time to clean or anything, I wiped it off best I could and slapped a piece on to cover the crack. It went to GD that year for a slide seal repair and I had mentioned what I had done to the roof. They inspected the whole roof and said they could not get the tape off to repair the sealant underneath, just leave it alone. That was 3 years ago and there have been no problems with it. If I had the time and dry space I would have cleaned the old sealant off and applied new but this was not going to happen. I think in the emergency use of the Eternabond tape I don't think it matter much how it goes on.

How much EternaBond to have on hand for personal use? Twenty feet is more than ample. Professionally I use 50 to 150 feet a year. On my personal RV I’ve used about a foot in five years.

On the surface EternaBond is expensive at about a $1 a foot. On the other hand what is the cost of failure?

In addition to EternaBond I’ve had good success with the Alpha Systems product which is available in black, nice to have when repairing the outside edge of the slide roofs on Momentums.

You also have to realize that EternaBond is not an RV product. It is designed to be used in different types of building flat roof systems that use different membranes. It just so happens that the RV industry started using EPDM, TPO, etc . . . roof membranes for RV roofs.

So if you don't properly clean and prime you probably void the 15 year warranty. If you are making a 'permament' repair on a building roof you would definitely clean, prime, and roll on. Use on building roofs is also why the tape comes n such long rolls. If a seam is failing you are going to tape the whole seam. Most RV roofs don't have seams so a full roll is probably, hopefully, more than one RV owner will need.
