  • Grand Design Snobs?

I feel like my wife and I are becoming GD Snobs! We have been shopping RV's for months (retirement is approaching fast!) and every time we look at a different brand we always end up comparing it to GD. In the end, we look at the checklist and GD always checks more boxes.

I'm a second generation FT'er so I've been around RV's my whole life. I feel like current GD quality is comparable to what my perception was of Coachman before it was swallowed up by Forest River.

I'm looking at the 295RL. To us it seems to meet the size and layout requirements while being light enough to be easily towable with a 3/4 ton truck (no interest in going bigger for both). With GD, all indications point to respectable quality and top-notch customer service. Are we becoming GD snobs (ok, maybe just slightly biased instead of snobs...)? Is my current perception of GD on target?

My wife and I have been camping for 20+ years. From a pop up to travel trailers. We now own a 2020 Reflection 337RLS. We went to the RV Show at Harrisburg PA and looked at over 50 Fifth wheels. The same thing happened. We kept comparing the units we liked against GD. We absolutely love our unit. We are 2 years away from retirement and can't wait to travel. Good luck and happy travels.

Don't be alarmed. It's happened to many of us. What's kept us happy, besides the floor plan, is the customer service. We drank the Kool Aid early, 2013, and wouldn't be camping at all if it hadn't been for GD repairs after the fact. There have been more than a few repairs post warranty completed at no cost to us. If you want to meet up with about 500 of your peers plan on coming to the National Rally next August.

We have been full-time in GD fifth wheels for a little over five years (owned products by other manufacturers before that). While the build and materials in our GD units has not been head and shoulders above that of the other brands with which we have experience (better, but not at the level of units like Excel and DRV prior to 2008), it was the customer service experience with Grand Design on our Reflection that drove our decision to order a new Solitude when we made the decision to stay on the road long-term. We have very happy with our choice. Snob does not look good on us, though.

The customer service is sounding like a broken record. I've read and heard this same story too many times to be coincidental. I'm looking at the Kool Aid and thinking it looks tasty.

I agree 100% that "snob" doesn't look good on anyone

Question: Do the double pane windows work to reduce condensation?

Best to start a new thread if the topic is going to change, OK? (Recommend starting the new thread on double pane windows in the EXTERIOR channel if you choose to do so.)

Do a search of the forum for "double pane" and you'll find a few relevant threads where the advantages and disadvantages of double pane windows are discussed at length.

Since you're new here, the moderators are looking for feedback on that welcome letter. Would love to read your .02: https://gdrvowners.com/forum/main-fo...mbers-feedback

                Again, welcome!

I will agree with all of the above.
After searching for our "next" RV for a few years we finally walked into a GD unit and new this was what we were looking for. We then found the model that checked most of our boxes , can not seem to find the one that checks all of the boxes , and purchased in 2017. We did not know anything about GD at the time , no facebook reading or forum lurking , until after we purchased. The reason was simple for us , price , quality of build , and floor plan that we liked. We will more than likely use the same criteria for our next one but GD will get first look and then compared to others.
After our purchase we went to the RV show in Pittsburgh and did not see anything that made us say "we should have got that one". We have been happy with our purchase and the support from GD with the few issues we had.

Absolutely. They help keep the place warmer, too.

I don't know of any other Mfg who practices the quality control that GD does. Every unit at the end of the assembly line...every unit in a separate PDI area. Cudos GD!!

I feel like we are and we are very new. We just don't gloat about it. I did much research and that is what brought us to GDRV. We now compare all to them.

I'm a GDRV snob. No excuses.

I camp with my best friend who I've know since I was 15 years old and who happens to be my wife. And she is a GDRV snob too.
