  • Dinette bench repair share

Before anyone asks, yes I did this... I leaned on it and it just sort of folded. :-(

I saw other discussions on the brads (pin nails) holding trim pieces; they might work there but I think they're too light for the construction of the bench seat. That's why I'm posting... not to brag on my prowess with a screwdriver, but to say "ugh" regarding the bench construction.

To repair, I cut off the staples and used screws with pilot holes.
The screws are wood screws, #8 x 1¼. (1½ and above is too long.)
I didn't upgrade the other bench because it's against a wall and doesn't flex like this one does.

Scott, Thanks for this. I think I will need to do the same proactively in our 2970RL.

Staples alone are not enough to hold that together. Glue and a couple of screws do wonders for strength. I question the construction methods in campers, Yes they are trying to stay light, simple, and cheap however long term durability then comes into question.

Cate&Rob howson any word on the construction methods on the Solitude islands that have been known to have issues with the bottom shelf not holding up the rest of the unit on the one end?

We had a similar failure on our 2600RB. Some wood glue and a dozen screws had it better than new.
