  • Google and DuckDuckGo Search Failures

    Members,
With the reorganization of the forum, when a search is performed with Google, DuckDuckGo (or similar search engine) a user may not get to the thread when they click on the link.

For example, I performed the search below just now and the thread I wanted was shown in the results.

Click image for larger version Name:	Search Failures.jpg Views:	0 Size:	64.1 KB ID:	106762

However, because of the reorganization, the link provided by the search engine resulted in the forum responding as shown below.

Click image for larger version Name:	result.jpg Views:	0 Size:	94.4 KB ID:	106763

Note that the URL in the initial result provided by the search engine gives all the clues needed to find the thread. The search engine provided the actual title and the channel where the thread will be in (in the case of the EGS thread) the Exterior channel. Why? Because all of the Reference Material channel information was merged with it's parent channel--in this case the Exterior channel.

With a bit of time the search engines will catch up and this will resolve itself. In the meantime, please help members that may come asking about results like this by having them search for the thread using the Advanced Search page.

The Moderator Team thanks you for the assist!

Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, we have nothing to gain should you choose to purchase a product or engage a service we discuss on this forum.
