  • Igniter spark not happening at stovetop

๐Ÿค” May well just be related to the cold snap however: background: 1) hooked up to 30 amp service at home, seldom have any issues with the rig while here. 2) both batteries are new(ish) 78Ah AGM Duracell Ultra not cheap. Batt board shows all 4 lights. 3) LP is getting to stovetop, can light all burners easily with battery powered match, flame is high and strong blue color. 4) unusually cold here today so maybe this situation is related to that or not. 5) LP furnace lights and runs great. All thoughts and experiences appreciated.

OOPS: cold weather caused a brain freeze. Issue resolved. More coffee was the solution. ๐Ÿ˜œ

Check that the igniter is not powered by a separate AA battery.

I'd have to go out and exercise the camper, but IIRC the button looks like it might have a battery under it.

On my second RV in four years and donโ€™t recall learning anything about a 9v battery being related to a spark igniter. To my knowledge the power that provides the spark to any igniting device on the camper comes from the battery (s). If not, maybe someone else will chime in here. TY.

We have gas cooking etc in our house that combines the on- position with the igniter all on one knob, unlike the RV wherein of course the gas-on knob and the igniter knob are separate, so my brain was in the home-mode rather the RV mode, duh!

Schiefswret Did you get the electric spark on the stove top working? If so, what was the solution, the 9V battery?

One would think with all the 12V stuff and possibly 12V lighting on the range, it would use RV 12V power, but why would they do something logical, that might just make sense...... Glad it was a simple fix.

I know you determined the issue, but I wanted to post this for future information in case someone comes across the thread.

A Suburban style stove does not use shore power or a battery to generate the ignition spark. When you rotate the knob, a self contained piezo igniter generates the spark to light the gas. It sparks at all three burners at the same time, so no matter which one you're trying to light it will encounter a spark.

If the piezo igniter fails, they are very simple to remove and replace.

Thanks Jim! How right you are. Iโ€™m never too old to learn something new. Until your post I never noticed that all burnersโ€™ igniters pinged and did not know that they operated on their own outside of any battery or AC input. Much thanks! Missed you at the last National, Iโ€™ll make a point to catch you at the 23โ€™ if you can make it. Travel safely!!๐ŸšŒ

On my 2018 303rls the igniter has a AA battery that needs to be replaced if not producing a spark when pushing down. Rotate the knob counter clockwise to expose the battery. I just recently changed the battery out after 4 years.

Interesting! What stove is in your rig, Vivian? I've only seen the piezo igniter mentioned by Jim.
