aaannnnddddd the wife just ixnay'd the removal of the fridge. :-) Good thing I like to double check renovations before I bust out drills and saws.
Yep this happens to me once and a while. If it is a mod that she does not see or really need to know about I just do it. If it alters anything that requires her "OK" I ask well before the planning stage for permission before I put forth too much effort.

So I'm part of the way there. No heat shield yet, but the major portion is complete.
Found a local place that makes laminate countertops. Brought the existing stove up there, and had them match the laminate pattern. Then the owner said they had something that was "almost" the same in the "left over" pile. The leftover meant they could make the countertop for $60.
Here is the patient, with the transplant donor next to them.
I had to remove the stove, because I could not access the complete bottom with it installed.
Using a paint scraper first, then a chisel, I pried the existing counter from the frame
I removed the staples through a combination of driving them back through, or cutting them with Wire cutters.
I drilled and countersunk the holes, in preparation of using 1 1/4 exterior decking screws to attach the frame to the counter.
Here's a couple of pictures of the finished product. (Sorry, I couldn't wait for daylight to finish this project!)
I love how the temperature control just perfectly fits the hand hold. I wish I planned that, but it was just luck.
Next up is the heat shield, and I'll also need to rebuild the little cubby.
The weight of the Blackstone, plus the fact that it looks like a few of the screws missed there mark, has the shelf noticeably bowing in the center now. I'm torn between reinforcing what's there (Fairly easy) or going full custom, and making a cutout in the middle of the shelf so I just leave the Blackstone on the drawer all the time.
