I have the 2021 303rls Im trying to get the fireplace to just heat the room without the light in the fireplace on, I must be overlooking something, I like to use it in the evening to keep guests warm without lighting up the room

I don't believe you can turn the light off but you should be able to reduce the brightness. I think the light on serves as a reminder that it is running.

Correct that the lighting can be dimmed but cannot be turned off if the heat is on. Has been this way since at least 2015, because this is the way ours is.

Had a connection issue the other day, and had the FP pulled out. I know it will void the warranty, but my guess is the lighting is isolated from the Heat b/c you can control the light with no heat, but not heat with no light. A simple mod to the light power wire with a switch would be simple enough. Also add a small light that indicates its on as a reminder.

To "turn off" the fireplace lighting with an additional switch, there are two circuits to intercept. One is the constant voltage to the motor that turns the "flame" and the other is the variable voltage that powers the lighting. Yes . . . that scrunched up foil on the rotating rod generates the flame "visual effect" . These functions are controlled separately from the controller (later fireplaces have LED lights).

Looks like it gets power from the motor would be easy to put a switch after the motor to the lights,

Actually a switch before the motor so you do not have to listen to it all night. It may be a bit more complicated on the newer ones since they are multi color. Might be LED's in them now.

Investing in a small plug-in ceramic heater might be a better alternative for the times that you have guests and need a small amount of heat. (not enough to run the furnace). We run one of these in the corner of the bathroom on cool nights.

Agreed that the fireplace puts out lots of heat . . . it just does it with "flame" light and drum noise. This might just be and easier way to avoid the light without rewiring the fireplace . If you want heat with absolutely no light or noise, an oil filled electric radiator is another way to go. These do take longer to heat the space but will keep it warm once warmed up.
