  • 7 pin connector blues

Good morning! Old newbie returning to camping and drug my 7 pin connector on the ground and it now needs replacement. I stopped by the local Menard's and picked up a 7 pin connector with pigtail and I know it's hard to believe but some of the wires are different colors than that on the Imagine 2950RL. I'll be the first to say that trailer connector wiring is not my strong point and never has been. I've used a tester and the marking on my 2015 Ram connector outlet and I've got the basics working but it's just not right; i.e. left turn signals work and so does the right but when the left is on the side marker lights blink as well, also the right tail light does not light up with headlights on. In other words, I've still got a mess. Would it be better just to purchase a new 7 pin connector and pig tail from Grand Design or take it to a shop? From GD I should have the same colors to run it all the way back under the camper into the steel junction box. Puzzled. Scott

NEEmogene -- the OEM part is a Bargman. Their website is here: https://www.bargman.com/

Any RV store should have a suitable replacement.

It is puzzling why the colors are different on the Menard's connector. Why deviate from standard?

What many of us here have done is install a mictuning box on the RV side. Makes identifying and modifying/replacing the 7-pin much easier. There's a picture of the box here: https://gdrvowners.com/towing-and-hi...2028#post92028

New cord and box available on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/MICTUNING-Hea.../dp/B01M1FC3WG

I am guessing you have the right blinker and marker reversed.

Remember when you are looking at the connector on the truck then into the face of the connector (not the back side) the pins will be reversed. I have done this several times.

The best way would be with an OHM meter if there is enough of the plug left to ohm between the wires you cut and the end that goes into the truck. Ohm a color, then put it in its place remembering that if you look into the face of the trailer plug it's the opposite on the back (again I have done this).

Also pay close attention to the ground wire. Bad ground connection will make the lights do all kinds of strange things.

NEEmogene No problem. We have all been there or will be there one day.

Like I mentioned, pay close attention to the ground. I had a bad ground cause me a few hours of headaches b/c it was not terminated with the rest of the trailer wiring and did not immediately check it.
