  • Cable size for 303rls 12v wiring

I have a 2019 303rls and have to replace the 12v green and white wire that runs from the propane detector to the back where it comes out of the frame and is joined by a red/white wire. It's a ? -2. I can't find the part on GD's web site and their parts person hasn't returned my call. I looked at some stranded 14 THHN single wire at Home Depot and that's smaller than what I'm pulling out. Not sure if it's the casing or wire and casing. Can someone tell me what type of cable and size they used. It's a 14-2 or 12-2 ??? type. tia

Welcome to our owners technical forum!

Grand Design typically uses 14-2 wire for most 12V wiring. This is certainly heavier than needed for a propane sensor, but is their standard.

From propane it goes back to slider then up the outside slider wall to led light then to dinnette led lights then to awning switch. It's stranded wire but what type of coating? Wondering if automotive cables would be thicker. The wire is much thicker than the single strand I found at Home depot @14 awg.

Should not matter what you use, stranded is generally easier to work with, but harder to terminate. Automotive will be more flexible but more expensive. The number of strands varies, and the diameter of both the wire and insulation will vary as well, but any wire that is 14AWG will carry the same current and be "safe" to use.

14/2 most likely size. There is some 10/2 for slide out motors and controllers

The RV mfgrs appear to custom order their wire.
I've got some in my rig that's imprinted:

          Type TEW Thermoplastic Equipment Wire

Standard basic insulation color numbers are: Black: 0, Brown: 1, Red: 2, Orange: 3, Yellow: 4, Green: 5, Blue: 6, Violet: 7, Gray: 8, White: 9.
The insulation color code number, may be 1, 2 or 3 digits depending on the number or absence of stripes.
The 1st number is color of Insulation, 2nd number is color of first stripe; 3rd number is color of the second stripe.
Example: White wire(9) + Red stripe(2) + Black stripe(0) makes a color code number of “9-2-0”. That color number, “9-2-0” is appended to the part number.
Sample part number might be “xxxxxx-xxx-920"
