  • Good Battery Hydrometer

I took a break from the Multiplus programing and waiting for sun to warm things up so I went down my to do list.

One item I need for battery maintenance is a good accurate battery hydrometer.

From searching I believe Tuscon Jim uses the EZred SP101 https://www.amazon.com/E-Z-Red-SP101...language=en_US This unit has mixed reviews on accuracy, but I am thinking they did not follow the instructions on filling to the line and keeping it level as shown in several videos. https://ezred.com/product/battery-hydrometer/ I am assuming made in China.

Then there is the Hydro Volt that came up tops in reviews (EZRED was usually #2) https://www.altestore.com/store/deep...teries-p11208/ Larger scale and good accuracy. Good reviews too. Its German Made http://www.compaselect.ch/battery_tester.html

Then there is a cornucopia of others that really don't rate highly in the reviews I looked at.

So I am hoping those that have used a battery Hydrometer that you will share what you use and your thoughts.

    Thanks
    Keith

PS: I do know that if I went BB I would not need one of these

On edit I just ran across this youtube comparison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGBgTxRGujU

I have not used this one. But a long time ago in my past I used a similar model to this and I thought it was about the best I have ever used. If I were to buy one today, I think I would look into this one or a similar model refractive hydrometer.

    I hope this is helpful.

I like the Hydro Volt by Unitec.

My biggest concern is that measurements are repeatable and with enough resolution that I can see a weak cell and watch it rise during equalization. The EZ Red just doesn’t have enough marks to make it easy.
