  • Help - Fuse Blowing

Just got to our site. The 12 volt rear lights and Norcold fridge won’t turn on. Changing the fuse just blows that out, too. We have a 390 RK.

Blowing a fuse that quickly is usually a sign of a short circuit. Perhaps a wire has rubbed through its insulation while travelling? If your fridge is in a slide, look for chafed wiring under the slide.

Based on the information I have access to view, I'm going to guess it's fuse 1 (15A) that's blowing.

If you leave the Norcold off does the fuse still blow? The reason I ask is there's been a lot of threads about the fans on the rear of the Norcold causing issues--but not to the extent you're experiencing. If the lights come on with the refrigerator off at least you've narrowed the problem to that one component.

If leaving the refrigerator off still blows a fuse where I'd look is under the slides for a pinched wire. Both of the kitchen slides have lights on the 12v circuit. Try bring in one slide at a time and putting a fuse in. To be safe you might want to consider turning off the battery disconnect when you insert a new fuse.

David Mohn Welcome to the family and the forum!

Your wiring is going to run from the fuse box down to under the floor just behind the front pass thru and comes back up in the rear basement and into the cabinet next to the fridge. That is where they should split and the wiring for the lights goes up in the cabinet beside the fridge and then to the switch. As howson said, you can d/c the fridge and replace the fuse, or d/c both and see what happens. unhooking both will tell you if they skinned a wire underneath during construction as it will pop the fuse with no load.
