1 more thing, I promise....has anyone EVER needed 30' of cable?

Depends on the places you go I guess. I use over 30' more often than not. And as ncitro says. Try an Ontario Provincial park. They are notorious for placing the power post in the most stupid place possible.
For the most part I like the flexibility having extra cord gives us.

We have needed an extension for our 30a cord on several occasions. Having the plug on the rear of the trailer, and most power posts being placed for a plug that is on the driver side, has resulted in us needing an extension. Sounds like our Provincial parks are like Ontario's!
One other occasion where we needed an extension was where the 30amp plug at the campground had a deep lip on it to engage the weather proof foam on the cover. That lip prevented our cord from fully seating, but fortunately our extension could get around it.
