I remove the battery every Fall after winterization and putting my camper in storage. I use a slide disconnect on the negative side wwhen sitting in storage between outings. https://www.amazon.com/Post-Battery-...6424571&sr=8-4 I only remove the positive wire once a year and it was my own carelessness that caused the current mishap. (Catch the pun?)

TNFSolitude I know you are using the disconnect on a regular basis, but keep your eye on the disconnect as they have been known to get loose.
