  • Not loving our non duct air conditioner

Just bought GD Imagine AIM 18BH, has a non duct air conditioner so loud , wish it had thermostat and quieter.
    1) we were wondering if anyone found a way to control the AC with a remote?(some home appliances you can make it so you can control remotely?)

    2) We were thinking of getting a quieter, portable air conditioner for night time (we currently live in Florida and moving back to AZ and hot Summer outings coming up! We will be plugged in most of the time when we take it out.
Not sure about a small window unit option?

    Thanks for any input!

    It may be possible.

First, think of the air conditioner as three separate components. There's the big box on the roof (the "air conditioner"), the grille you see underneath (from inside the camper) that's known as the plenum, and of course (if equipped) the thermostat.

The plenum includes a control box that has the circuitry to interface the air conditioner to the thermostat. Most likely the plenum in the setup in your Imagine doesn't have a control box with that capability since from the description in your post it sounds like the plenum temperature control is a manual dial.

If you remove the plenum filter and look up inside the cavity, there might be stickers with part numbers identifying the exact air conditioner and/or plenum in your unit. With that information you can do a google search, though it's not easy sometimes to nail down specifics, especially with Airxcel ("Coleman") units.
