  • 2015 Reflection 357BHS 5th wheel-2nd AC

My 5th wheel has only one AC unit (Dometic Model 59516.711J0). Looking to add the 2nd one so we do not continue to abuse the one during the 90+ degree days. I would assume since there is the 2nd breaker it would already be pre-wired. Would anyone know if it is pre-wired to the front roof vent in the master bed or rear vent in the back bunk area? Also would it also be pre-wired to run off of the one thermostat with the main AC? Appreciate any comments.

Grand Design usually pre wires to the front bedroom. If you drop the skylight shroud you should see a yellow romex for 120v power, a loop of 14 gauge for 12v power (thermostat and control board), and a brown low voltage cable for the thermostat. The thermostat wire is usually run to the light switch, and you locate the thermostat next to it. They are designed for a dedicated thermostat, and the ducted system. I did my own Coleman unit (had a Dometic in the living room but wanted the quieter Coleman unit), it was a pretty easy install, hardest part was getting it up to the roof. I elected to go with a heat pump unit which has been great in the cool weather. Assuming we have hookups, between it and the fireplace we do not run the furnace until it approaches freezing.

Thats right, I have a Dometic in the living room and a Coleman Mach in the bedroom. Since the units are not connected at all (except for the ductwork) you are not locked into anything.

You can also put a low profile unit in the front to help retain a lower wind profile and clearances.
