  • low profile AC not available???

I recently took delivery of a new Grand Design Imagine IM2250RK-2021 November 30th after ordering 4 months ago. I ordered the low profile AC at the time of order as both the salesperson and service department stated this would allow the trailer to fit under my 10 ft 10-inch garage door. Well, the trailer arrived without the low profile AC installed, and my dealer Bretz, Nampa, Idaho cannot give me a date on when this unit will arrive. I am getting concerned as it has been over 5 months.

Suggestions on next steps? Anyone have Don Clark's email address or phone number? As the president and CEO of GD, he should have the AC company on his speed dial.

There is an industry-wide shortage of air conditioners and this is the norm now.

Jkwilson is correct--GD is doing everything they can do to deliver units. Some components are not available at any price. This is not just within the RV industry--the logistics chain across many industries is a mess right now.

If I'm interpreting your post correctly, you're under the impression GD is going to send a low-profile a/c to replace the one on your trailer? I'd check with GD directly to ensure your dealer is telling the whole story. Call GD Customer Service (see "business card" on this forum's home page) and provide the rep with your trailer's VIN.

Post back what you find out. I hope my suspicions are wrong.

Noted this was your first post, so when you get a chance check out the Welcome Letter to New Members https://gdrvowners.com/forum/main-fo...to-new-members

As someone who purchased a new Solitude in February (from Bretz in Nampa) and am still dealing with pre-delivery & warranty issues which have yet to be corrected - PLEASE follow Howards advice and get something in writing (email counts) from Grand Design to back up what you're being told by the dealership? I did and it's the only thing that's making it something that can't be ignored.
I wasn't very impressed with the sales side of Bretz but after nearly 3 years of looking at different brands, models, and types of RV's we knew what we wanted and they had 2 of the previous year's model with all the options we wanted so off to Nampa I went.
Completely different experience with the people on the service & parts side at Bretz who were decent and I think they did a good job within the limits of what they could do.

And yes, parts are very difficult to find - even something as simple as vacuum break for a toilet took me hours on the phone and a bit of luck to find the one we needed. Between the Covid-19 impacts to manufacturing, including the suppliers of smaller parts, and the number of people who decided to purchase an RV this year when they couldn't take other types of vacations - it's making things extremely difficult.

I will echo what others have said and add that being a Moderator on Grand Designs owned site I do not even have Don Clarks phone number.

Also after a recent Zoom meeting with Grand Design we learned quite a bit about the supply chain. They are having quite a time just trying to install the needed components on a new RV. I, as others have said , if you ordered your unit with specific items installed then you should have those items. When you call GD to ask for these details make sure you have your VIN with you. Being as you special ordered your TT they will have all of the documentation for it. You can then make sure the dealer ordered everything that you have paper work on.

I'm Ordering Out a Solitude S-Class 3950BH for a customer. Knowing of the extreme parts shortage I verified that the Mandatory 2nd AC will be installed. My rep said it's units with 3 AC's that could be the issue. Also, as a side note, Linen color will be replaced with "Cotton." Lighter and not as yellow as Linen. Happy Holidays...........

As mentioned previously in this thread, Grand Design (and all RV manufacturers) are scrambling to find component and appliance suppliers. They have been clear that they cannot guarantee any particular brands. If you have an agreement with your dealer for a particular brand and size of AC (and I can understand that this is important because of your storage restrictions) this is between you and your dealer. Given that you have taken delivery of the unit with the "wrong" AC . . . I can see where this is going to be difficult to resolve, but I don't think that tracking down Grand Design executives is going to help (just my personal opinion).

I think I agree with everyone here, once you take delivery you will not have near the negotiating power with your dealer. I know this may not help you, but maybe someone else will stumble along this and it might help them. If anything is wrong with your order or missing, get it worked out before you sign and take delivery. The dealer will bend over backwards to get it straightened out if it is sitting on the lot, and they have not been paid, but once you take delivery and they have your money, things tend to move slower.

I second the opinions here to give Grand Design your VIN and make sure you, your dealer and them are on the same page. I fear you will discover that is not the case.
