  • New Furrion A/C Starts and stops. Is this normal?

We spent our first night in our new 2021 GD 2600RB last night--yay! I had the fan on high, and the thermostat on 70 and the cool mode selected. Throughout the night, the compressor would kick on, runs for a few minutes and deliver cold air. After a few minutes, the compressor would shut off and stay off for maybe 5 minutes and run again for several minutes. Is this normal operation?

Probably. It would depend on the weather and whether the temperature is actually reaching the thermostat set point when it shuts off. RVs are poorly insulated so the cycle time is generally faster than it would be in a house.

Hopefully other owners with the Furrion will chime in with their experience.

Ga Camper We have a 2021 2600RB as well with the Furrion unit installed. What you describe is probably normal, particularly if the outside temps are relatively low compared to your t-stat setting. AsJkwilson states above the insulation in an r.v. is not like a home and fast cycling is to be expected. I have decided in my mind that the t-stat has a narrow range of temp. tolerance which may add to the rapid cycling. We have yet to run the a/c except to test for operation, what you describe is basically how the furnace cycles with the Furrion t-stat. Be glad the temps require a little a/c, at our home temps are still below freezing in the mornings. Building an understanding relationship with your rig will take time and patience. When you have time read through the various sections of the forum, there is a wealth of info in there. As you do this take note of the HVAC section and various items related to the Furrion operations. GD customer service has been great, if you have lingering concerns contact them before frustration sets in and they will be of help.

        Have fun and enjoy

This is probably not relevant as I think I have a different A/C system. But on my system the thermostat has a setting for Cool Fan Hi/Lo. Fan runs all the time but the compressor only runs sometimes. If I keep scrolling through the settings I see a setting for Cool Fan Hi Auto and another for Cool Fan Lo Auto. In the auto settings the fan comes on when the compressor comes on and turns off when the compressor stops.

We don't have a Furrion AC, but this is exactly how our Attwood AC works. The fan runs continuously to circulate air and even out temperatures throughout the trailer. The compressor comes on when additional cooling is required to reach thermostat set temperature.

We have Coleman a/c. We usually use Cool/Low/Auto unless it can’t keep up, then switch to Cool/Low so that the fan runs all the time to keep the air circulating around the room(s). When it’s really hot, switch to Cool/Hi. Also, if one of the ceiling vents directs air toward the T’Stat, it will be satisfied too soon, and shut off the compressor. Make sure vents are directed to cool various parts of the room. Of course the opposite is also true; if there is not enough air circulation around the t-stat, the room temp in other places might be cool, but t’stat doesn’t know it. We keep a small tabletop digital thermometer on the island or on the dining table to compare with what the t-stat says. Sometimes a 4-5 deg difference. Then put the digital close to the t-stat and found them within about 1 deg. So that shows the comfort level (temp) in the room can be different than the t-stat. Adjust the t-stat setting to produce the desired temp out in the room. As others have said, RV insulation is not like homes.

No, we don’t pull the Solitude, it’s permanently parked on our campsite in SW Fla.

As a related comment . . . fan speed and amount of (perceived) cooling are not directly related. We find that the RV "feels" much better during cool down if we use low fan speed. On low fan, the lower volume of air passing more slowly over the AC cooling fins gets noticeably cooler than it does at a higher fan speed.

The Furrion on our 2021 Imagine xls 17mke is short cycling before reaching t-setting and has a symptom I haven't seen mentioned. Within 1-2 minutes after shutting off, a pouring stream of condensation comes from the gutter. After it stops, the compressor fires up again. This is occurring in bone dry New Mexico. At home in horribly humid Houston it ran fine with constant slow drip, cooling properly.
                  Any thoughts?

Update- It behaved normally the next day in the same conditions. It's as if there's a condensation drain that was obstructed for a while?

rkstamets I second the above comment. Our Furrion unit has done the same thing several times for no apparent reason. It also has froze up in 15% humidity then worked fine at 40%. We are guessing that the freeze up was due to interior humidity from showers. Running the vent fans for about a 1/2 hour before a/c seemed to help.

                        Good afternoon,
No, it is not normal in our opinion.
Our symptoms were the same as yours. AC cutting on and off all night. Here’s what we did, BIG DIFFERENCE!

Very important to note where your temperature sensor is located. On our 2021 2500RL it was located on the Air Intake side in the AC unit, remove the cover, it should be labeled, thin black wire.
We also realized with the cover off, COLD AIR LEAKING out from the exhaust side to the intake side WHERE THE SENSOR RESIDES.
Some people have poked the sensor probe thru the foam filter to remedy the problem, we found this helped some, but still not happy.

Here are the steps we took to fix.

                        1. After reading many of the blogs, we purchased the CASTLEWINCH TEMPERATURE RELOCATION KIT for Furion Chill AC Units. The sensor kit provides 10 feet of wire to work with relocating…instructions are simple and easy to follow. Www.castlewinch.com ~$35.00

We purchased an electric wire snake and chose to locate the sensor in the ceiling just aft of the rear stereo speaker, centered (see pic). This allows for EASY snaking of the wire. We felt the location was important so as not to have undue influence from the vents close by.

                        2. We sealed the leaks in the AC unit from the exhaust side to the intake with foil duct tape. All accessible by removing the AC cover inside the trailer.

                        3. After reading several blogs on the noisy AC when on, we decided to block the slide vent on the cover with a piece of foam and duct tape inside the cover. This provided more air flow to the vents and the AC was ALOT quieter when operating.

                        Results
AC now does a soft start and runs smoothly without cutting on and off until selected temperature is met. We tested this with an independent thermometer and it reads within .5 to 1 degree F of set temperature on thermostat in bedroom.

See attached pics. The smallest dark circle on the ceiling pic is the screen hiding the sensor.
                        We hope this helps. (0:
