  • Add 2nd Grey Water Tank?

This past trip, we ran out of grey water storage. Has anyone added a second grey water tank to their XLS 22mle? The control panel shows a 2nd tank so I think it is wired for it. Either a 2nd tank or carry around a portable 28 gallon Camco.

That's a complicated question, John. Installing another grey tank would require 1) finding the space for it - and a tank that would fit, 2) fabricating steel rail mounts to hold it, 3) rerouting plumbing from some of your fixtures to utilize the new tank, and 4) devising a way to drain the second tank - either by plumbing it into the existing waste dump system with its own gate valve or adding a second discharge pipe and valve. I'm not sure it would be worth all the trouble. A portable waste tote would be far cheaper and easier to do.

Maybe a moderator can add their .02 worth, but, could it be that is a universal control panel plate? Ready for use with a unit that has a 2nd tank?

That is correct. Many models in all lines use a universal panel with positions for tanks that aren't there. For example, our Solitude 310 has buttons for two black tanks and two grey tanks. It has two grey tanks, but only one black tank.

Oh. I was thinking since it had the 2nd grey tank on the panel then I could just add. Those Camco totes may be the way to go.

You may also want to review some boon docking tips on how to best manage or reduce the amount of grey water you are creating.

Things like when running sink for hot water you can capture and dump outside. Be sure to do a military shower.

You didn't mention the number of days and people it took to fill your 45 gallon grey water tank.

There were 2 of us 4 days, 3 nights. Yea, we need to learn how to conserve. I am looking at the Camco tanks. Had the 28 gallon model 39005 with steerable wheels in my Amazon cart for a couple of weeks. Was, I think $217. Went to pull the trigger and it was at $290. Something fishy with Amazon. They have increased prices on me several times when I hold off purchasing. I think I am going with the 28 gallon w/o the steerable wheels. But I can't seem to find how you attach to your hitch to tow to the dump station. Anyone know?

I use the Barker one, reviews were a lot better, rubber air tires and includes the hitch kit, although I use my masceretor pump to fill it in the bed of the truck, so I’ve never towed it. I got the 42 gallon tank so it would take all of either grey tanks (I don’t use it for the black lol).
