  • Water Heater Failed

We just took out our 2021 2800BH for the first time this past weekend. I put the water heater bypass into normal use mode. It filled with water and we got hot water using gas. I turned on the water heater after it filled up. After we took one shower, it wouldn't reheat the water. The water heater wouldn't light, and I couldn't hear the igniter clicking. I have a followup appointment post sale with the dealer to go over issues.

I didn't have a voltmeter with me to troubleshoot, but I seems like maybe its a fuse. I also have seen it could be the control board. Is there anything that I need to be aware of? Is this a common issue? Is there a fuse inside? Nothing was tripped for the water heater.

I already have a file open with Grand Design on my Imagine trailer, and I have emailed DeWayne Jordan back to update my file with issues.

Any suggestions on what to carry or precautions for the future?

It could be many things. Two most likely candidates are the thermofuse and the board itself.

Many of us update the board to one from Dinosaur. I actually did it before the board failed. If the dealer discovers it is the board, consider swapping it out with the Dinosaur and keep the OEM board as a spare.

This thread about the thermofuse may help, too: https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...eck-thermofuse

Finally, a link to the thread where I showed how I replaced my board (yours may be different): https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...rd-replacement

Have you looked at the board on the HWH? Dometic has a 2 amp micro fuse on the board that can be replaced try checking that one even though you can hear it trying to light. Also have someone turn on the HWH while you are standing there with your hand on touching the gas valve to see if you can feel it click.

Also check to see that other gas appliances work. You may need to cycle the gas valve on the bottles if nothing else works.

Thank you for the replies. The electric didn't work either. The gas appliances such as the furnace, stove, and outdoor kitchen worked.

I was wondering about that fuse as well.

I was turning on the gas heater from my phone as I stood next to it and didn't hear any clicking. But I did not touch to see if I could feel the clicking.

I am not at my trailer but I do remember looking at the Thermofuse. It is wired to a pin connecter on the control board. It looks like I would have to replace the whole connection.

I have also seen in the past a loose connection on the water heater. There are a few wires with crimp on ends that plug into the thermostat and such that may be loose. I would check all of this before replacing the board. My water heater board was replaced in the first year and I had ordered a Dinosaur board and carry that for a spare , I have not needed it in the past 2 years but a good investment to have a spare.
