  • Shower draining into black tank. 2021 Momentum 395MS

Hello. New user, not new to RV’ing. Just picked up a 2021 Momentum 395MS-R. Previously I had a Solitude 3740BH. In My new Momentum the shower drains into the black tank, causing it to fill quickly and clog the shower pan. I called GD customer service and they inferred that this is ok and not against code and there were some productions done this way to help ensure flow out of the black tank? He says he will confirm. He says any fixes would be a modification request and not necessary a covered fix. This just sounds ridiculous to me. Shouldn’t my shower run into the Grey tank?

I would not want black water backing into my shower! That's not right.

wow, that doesn't sound like it is correct. My first thought was that you had both dump valves opening and the grey water was equalizing into the black tank as it filled....

Would you be able to post a picture of the plumbing lines under the bathroom? You will find these behind the false wall in the pass thru. Also how did you determine that the shower is draining into the black tank?

I am new to this forum. I will try to post pics. I did already take the wall off. The toilet pipe comes down and goes into the floor cleanly. As do the shower and sink drain pipes separately into the floor cleanly. After my shower pan filling up from a few short showers and the grey water being dumped with no relief to the shower pan, I thought I had a clog. As I was not on a sewer connection I had to wait until I could to test it out. Mind you this is basically a brand new rig. After determining there was no clog. Once I had a sewer connection, I then emptied all tanks. Then I ensured the tanks were empty by Pulling both grey and black and nothing drained. I then closed both grey and black and turned on only the shower. I let it run continuously and after 5 minutes, I opened the grey valve. Nothing! I then closed the grey valve and Then I opened the black valve. Whoosh. Murky water that then turned clearer as it ran. When I turned off the shower the water would stop running out of the black valve. When I turned the shower back on it continues running from the black valve.

The kicker is that grand design provided me with the drainage plan that clearly to me shows that the shower should be plumbed to the grey tank. But the rep said everything is correct on my rig. He even consulted with the product specialist.

so here I am again at another campground with no sewer. Cant use my shower because is will fill the black tank too quickly.

I think this rep is misinformed and incorrect. I advised him of same and awaiting a Reply.

I removed the drawing that Grand Design sent you , they request that their drawings are not shared on public Forums.

Something doesn't sound right. Is it possible the valve handles are switched? Maybe try running toilet water for a bit and see where it comes out.

Ok sorry about posting the drain plan, didn’t know.

Toilet water comes out of the black as it should. I can see the toilet “contents”. Grey tank is always clean from the sinks.

The GD rep still saying it is ok plumbed this way, that they did a few productions like this, but is willing to approve replumbing by a dealer. He says it’s not a health issue so he can’t get me into factory repair until September, even though I am traveling right now 15 minutes away for a few days. Dealerships are booking out even farther. So now I am stuck not using the shower when I don’t have a sewer connection. He says it’s still usable in the meantime??

                      Update

after sever phone calls and emails this morning. I somehow got in touch with a customer relations manager and maybe some other supervisors. They took a look and agreed to have me bring the unit in. They also agreed that the shower should be in the grey tank. They quickly confirmed that the shower was in fact dumping into the black tank. They are fixing as I type at the factory! Good job Grand Design I knew you wouldn’t disappoint. Kuddos to Christine, Mike and Jay!

That's great news. And many thanks to Brian (Country Campers) who was working this with GDRV management behind the scenes.

All fixed. Thanks to everyone for their help. Once this got sorted out, GD was more than accommodating getting me in since it was right down the road. Christine (Chris) in Customer relations, Mike the product specialist, Jay and Austin were a big help at the factory. They even fixed a separate stair issue I was having. I was feeling like I was crazy for a bit but they assured me I wasn’t and quickly fixed the issue.
I knew I chose Grand Design a second time around for a reason!

Thank you Country Campers (Bryan) as well!
