    PEX Plumbing

    Part of my supply lines are PEX, other parts are a similar Chinese? knockoff.
    Nothing has local shut-off valves which has always concerned me.
    And I have a toilet that's experiencing some issues so have ordered the parts to repair it - and figured I should replace the Chinese knockoff section with PEX and install a shut-off valve.

    Have lots of questions and I'm guessing at least a few people have been down this path already so thought I'd ask:
    Are there some posts I should read? Did a search for PEX and didn't get anything.
    What style PEX?
    Which style of fittings?
    Which tools?

    Chris, Many of us have removed all of the soft hose from ours. I have heard some back and forth on whether the brass fittings from Amazon sellers being inferior Chinese knockoffs or actual name brand. I decided that I would stay with something from big box stores when I bought a bag online that they just didn't look right to me. They had scarring and machine marks that weren't on the store bought ones. PEX tubing is cheap enough but the 10 ft sticks are usually only a dollar or so higher than the 5 foot sticks. As far as the tool, don't cheap out. This is what I ended up with after almost a major disaster with a cheap one. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Apollo-3...921125#overlay I did a bunch of work at our new house in Tn and had water spraying from every connection where the crimp wasn't sufficient. The new tool solved all of that. They make a clamp removal tool, but I am sticking with the Dremel and now using the original crimp tool to remove them. I also put cutoffs in my rear outside compartment for the kitchen, in the front passthru for the washing machine, and one behind the toilet. I managed to do all of this just after breaking two ribs, but I do have a larger space to work with. I carry a box with a large assortment of fittings and even a few 3/4 fittings in case I can help somebody else out in a jam.
