  • 22RBE Awning Rubs on Slide--Concern?

Hi, I'm a new member who just purchased a GD Imange XLS 22RBE.
I was wondering if anyone who owns a 22RBE has any concerns about the awning rubbing on the slide when both are extended?

Hi WNelson. Welcome to the technical forum.

Although I don't own that model, our Reflection 297RSTS has an awning over the slide also. There are quite a few models that have this "feature". We don't use our awning very often, but it is a concern that it might rub a hole in the awining. I've seen other owners cut a piece of pool noodle to put on the top of the slide to prevent damage.

WNelson--moved your post to the "Slide Outs" channel and modified the title to reflect the thread subject (easier for other members to find when searching).

      Welcome to the forum!

Also--a friend of mine has a 297RSTS like TucsonJim . My friend also uses a pool noodle for the exact same reason as Jim mentioned.

I had the same problem on my 297 RSTS like TucsonJim has on his. I use my awning all of the time. I recently put a slidetopper on the kitchen slide out and now the awning rests on the roller of the slide out awning until I back it up slightly. Then it does not rub. Also no sharp edges to poke a hole through now and don't need to clean off the top of the slide before closing up. Problem solved for me but I would also use the pool noodle if you don't go to the slidetopper that I did.

          WNelson,
I got my 22RBE July 4, 2020. We have had 3 trips already. I also noticed the potential rubbing problem with awning on the slide-out. I think a pool noodle would work fine. That's what I'm going to add.

This is when I usually tell my customers that I'm confident GD is aware of this, and if it became such a huge warranty issue they would have already made the necessary modifications (like the film retractable shower door)

With all due respect SBARLAG if's the unit is out of warranty we are stuck with holes or rips in the awning, right? I did cut two pool noodles to put over the ends but need to carry a ladder to put them on and take them off.

Hi Rob, could you tell me the make/model of slide topper you installed on the kitchen slide? When I bought my '19 297RSTS the dealer told me they could not install a topper on that slide as there was not enough room between the slide and awning when closed... Clive.

                  Hi Clive,

Farklepilot I used the Solera slide topper. I was told the same thing but then I found another 297RSTS owner who's dealer did it and he sent me pictures. I did the install with the help of my son and it worked out beautifully. Just be careful on the back end as you need to offset the slide topper over to the front more rather than centered so that the topper arm and the awning arm clear each other. Just one other note is that you will loose what little light from the patio LED strip where you put the slide topper not that we get a lot of light from there anyway with the slide in the way.

I have been thinking of putting an LED strip either in the awning tube or the kitchen slide but that is a project for spring. Out 297RSTS has been put to bed for the winter as I doubt that we will be going south this year with the border closed.
