  • New tires & Suspension Upgrade

We bought our XLS 22MLE in November 2019 and have only camped in it for two days for break-in although we’ve pulled it several times back & forth to the dealer for warranty work. It’s got about 1,200 miles on it now.

The cautious side of me says to go ahead and change the tires and upgrade the suspension now before anything happens. I probably worry more than I need to and may waste some money along the way, but who knows.

This week I’ll be swapping the Westlake tires for GY Endurance, same size, ST205/75R14 load rang D and installing Xtra Seal 17-428 metal valve stems. I’m familiar with these since I did the same thing on our previous TT and was satisfied. In early June I’ll have the MORryde CRE3000 equalizers installed along with the heavy duty wet bolt kit.

This is our 3rd TT since 2014 and we really like the floor plan plus it’s the longest we can fit in our driveway so hopefully this lasts for some time and we get our money’s worth on the upgrades.

I changed to the Goodyear Endurance, too. Made a local lawn maintenance contractor very happy when he bought my used Westlakes at a ridiculously low price. GD has heard from their customers--I think all of their lines have switched over (or will very soon) to the Endurance as OEM.

I did run the Westlakes our maiden summer voyage about 5,000 miles and had no issues with them. I do have TPMS, rig is within weight capacity and tires are checked at every stop. You could use it for a year or two then make the investment. We did go with the Endurance tires last year and so far no issues with them yet. The equalizer with heavy shackles and wet bolts is a good investment also look at your hangers, I am having mine braced this summer. Some are adding the X factor braces from Morryde if you are doing the CREE3000 might as well add that too. Of course, always get your bearings maintenance annually.

        I worry too,

Well, thanks to another thread on here it doesn’t appear that the MORryde CRE3000 will work on my XLS 22MLE.

Here’s a link to Morryde’s Qualification .PDF guide: See Step 2

Here’s a photo of my center bracket. Looks like I’ll have to go with the Dexter EZ Flex K71-653-00 for 35” axle spacing.

FWIW: I've installed the Dexter Easy Flex on both my previous non GD model and my current 2250RK, and have had good success with both.

Schiefswret Thank you for the response for Dexter EZ Flex

UPDATE: I called MORryde’s Customer Service this morning and they asked me to send a photo of my equalizer bracket and would have an engineer look at it.

              Here is their response:
”That should work per my engineer. He said it being too wide is an issue, too narrow is okay. It’s too wide on the left (bottom) side.”

Mudhendriver I’m copying you since you were thinking of CRE3000 too and where I learned about Step 2 in their Qualification Guide. Thanks

In terms of GY tires on new units, we've been seeing the GY on Reflections only.

Rob, thanks for picking that discrepancy up too. I got back in touch with Customer Service and they said the bottom of my bracket is good since it’s narrow but the top part needs to be trimmed (not ‘bottom’ as was stated incorrectly in their original email response). I was told to refer back to the diagram in Step 2 for the measurements.

This changes my decision back to getting the Dexter EZ Flex. The shop doing the work said I shouldn’t do it either since I’m under warranty and Dexter EZ Flex is an option.

                    Mudhendriver tagging for this update.

Update: I called Dexter Axle CS to confirm that EZ-Flex equalizer will work. They asked to check the equalizer for a stamped number and measure the distance between equalizer holes to determine axle spacing. She said this is necessary because Dexter ships axles separately and GD/other manufacturers mix/match suspension parts during assembly. Our equalizer is a Lippert (EQ-E1) and the shackle straps and bolts are Dexter. K71-653-00 kit will work for our TT.

If you’re considering this type upgrade call Dexter or MORryde first to verify.
