  • Hub temp

When I take hub temps with a thermal gun, where on the hub should I put the pointer? I’m assuming where the bearings are. When I started taking temps I was all over the place with temps based on where the pointer was. I could get three different temps on where the bearings, drum magnet and drum shoes are located. Is the bearing location where I need to be?

Chip, I don't think the location is as important as the hub to hub variation. In other words, I'd measure the same place on all four wheels/hubs and look for significant differences in them. For example, if you measure the drums (In the same place), and one of them is running 15-20 degrees hotter than the other three, it would be suspicious and further inspection may be warranted.
