    Hi Steve & Laura,

    If the brakes are covered in grease, you can just replace the shoes and clean everything else . . . but, check the prices. Often a completely new backing plate and brake assembly will be less expensive than just the shoes. You should be pulling the drums every year anyway to inspect and repack the bearings (recommendation from all manufacturers) so, the opportunity to inspect the brakes comes along with this.
