As Rob mentioned, I removed the battery box and covered the hole with steel plate. I then used angle aluminum (I think it was 1X1), cut it to the lengths I needed, and screwed it down to the floor of the compartment so it fit tightly around the batteries. There really aren't any straps or anything going OVER the batteries, they just sit on the floor - they've never moved, even over some very rough roads.
