  • Solar wiring and MC4 connectors

Good morning and please bear with me. I am still researching my solar addition. No matter how I go I will need additional solar wiring and MC4 connections. Existing wiring on my existing panels is 10 gauge and based on the blue sea chart https://www.bluesea.com/resources/1437 10 gauge is good for the runs from the solar panels to the junction box and for about 10' to the controller from there. The extension kits I am considering is wired wit MC4 connectors for a short 30" lead which appears to be standard across the brands. Based on where I can actually mount the panels I will need 10 gauge solar wire cable extensions and MC4 connectors. There are lots of pre-made solar cables out there but $$$. Amazon appears to have a great collection of MC4 connectors and solar wires. My new crisper will work with the pins in the MC4 connectors so I thought I could make up my own cables, and not have excess coiled up.

I know the cables need to be rated for sun exposure. What are the good brands? Also there is a huge selection of MC4 fittings out there. I don't want junk, so what brands are good?

    Thanks for any help.

    Keith

Yoda -- I probably sound like a broken record at this point...but what I did is documented in my solar install thread. Post 19. https://gdrvowners.com/forum/solar/1...2536#post12536

My bad Howard - I flat missed your post. I just read through it and it answers a lot of my wiring questions and adds in another layout I had not considered (using the junction boxes) I have read so many I am in information overload.
Thanks for being patient with me.

Merry Christmas and my the New Year be great to you and your family

I purchased 16’ rolls of cable directly from Renogy. It is 10 gauge. https://www.renogy.com/solar-stranded-copper-pv-wire/
