  • Electric Fridge - Shut down power

I have the 2021 32BHS (Transcend). It comes with Battery/Electric only refrigerator. When we put this in storage we clean out the fridge and freeze and leave doors open and turn the power off from inside the fridge dial. But since this runs straight to battery, it bypasses the electrical cut off switch, the fridge light stays on. A workaround, not great, is to put duck tape over the door lever that controls the light. Not a great long term solution. I know I could remove the battery cables but not great option as well.

    1) Is there a separate power switch/cut off for the fridge?
    2) Is there a better way to disable the light in fridge? After market item?

Also, was not able to find after market item to prop open the freeze/fridge door that fit. Does anyone have suggestion besides a towel?

Welcome to the forum Dawson. I pulled the owner's manual for the Furrion refrigerator and sure enough, for extended storage it says to disconnect power by either shutting off the disconnect switch or pulling a fuse. I'll get in touch with my contact at GDRV so they can include the refrigerator on the disconnect switch for future owners. Unfortunately for you, it may require some rewiring to add another switch for the refrigerator or identifying the fuse in the control panel and pulling it.

    Jim.

P.S. Here's a welcome letter for new members.

One more thing. I see that you don't have the door storage lock. I'd suggest you call Furrion at 800-789-3341, or contact GDRV customer support at 574-825-9679.

Having the fridge on the battery disconnect would be good and bad. Good for when in storage , bad if the switch is bumped while camping and the fridge is turned off. A separate switch for the fridge would be ideal and something that could be added by the owner and maybe should be added by GD.

          Brian and Jim,

Thanks for all the info. I will call to get fridge lock. As for the good and bad for battery disconnect, I agree. I see both ways as valuable. What would be nice is if on the inside of trailer, control panel, there was fridge disconnect switch... I may wire that up if I can find wiring layout in the trailer. As this is my first trailer, tracing wires could be a struggle.

Kyle - I just heard back from GDRV. Furrion is addressing this on future builds with an off/on switch on the refrigerator itself and a three minute timer on the light. I know that won't help you, but it's nice to know that constant improvements are being made. I haven't seen one of these installed in a Transcend yet. Is there a way to access the wiring on the back of the refrigerator?

Is there a fuse in the power center , where your breakers are , for the fridge? If so we may be able to find a place there to put a switch.

                Brian,

There is no fuse on the control panel or main fuse box for the fridge. There is a fuse up by the battery outside, but that does not turn off the fridge light when I pull it.

                Jim,
Yes good news for future enhancements. I will look this weekend to see if I can get behind the fridge to connect to the power line. I was thinking of adding this by my power control panel where I run the fridge line to it first then to fridge. This would allow me to turn off the fridge, see power level on battery and give me option to power my TV via DC plug with inverter.

Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram where they ran the wires in the travel trailer? 2021 32BHS (Transcend)

                  Kyle[/QUOTE]

There is no "real" wiring diagram. Most wires that I have found are run below the floor and above the coroplast then up thru the floor where needed. Some wiring will go thru the walls in certain areas but these are most likely just feeding a switch or a light. According to what I can see from the information that I have the fuse panel is below and to the right of the fridge , correct? Also I can see that the fridge and furnace is on the same fuse , F6, You could separate the two wires from that fuse connections and move the fridge wire to another empty fuse area.

Thanks Brian, I will double check the fuse in the next few days see if I can find it.

As for the door locks, look in the large packet folder you got with the trailer. I found mine there tucked into the fridge manual. One thought on the fridge power. Open the outside cover and look for a fuse or the power junction box. You may be able to install a switch there and not need to mess with the trailer wiring. At least I am hoping there is a outside back access panel - maybe not. Hope this helps.

No exterior access for the 12v fridge on my 297QB, I assume that is true across the line as well.

                          Brian,

I looked at by fuse box and you will notice that line 6 does show Fridge/Furnace. But you will see, from the factory, it has white out/white tape over the word fridge. My Guess is that it is not on the line. I removed all fuses and the fridge light still works, does not go off.

So I remove the disconnect cable from front, removed all fuses and fridge light still no. Any suggestions?

If there is nothing in the fuse box and the trailer disconnect switch does not kill it. then it must be wired to the trailer positive buss bar that has self resetting circuit breakers attached. I don't know where that would be on your unit. The positive battery cable attaches to it through a breaker I believe. It may be on your trailer frame up front and should be covered (maybe not)
                            Hope this helps

I agree with Keith above. Check out on the tongue of the trailer and follow the positive wire from the battery to the frame. It will be attached to a self resetting breaker. Check the wires on this , I think you might find that the fridge will be wired directly to this point. I can not imagine why this is done and not thru the fuse panel. A little more checking and I think we will get you where you need to be.
