  • Pre-Delivery Checklist

I spent a good part of a week prior to taking delivery of my camper assembling the attached checklist (from multiple sources). I read multiple sources and watched a lot of YouTube videos about what to check. My dealer, Campers Inn in Middle Georgia, was exceptionally accommodating. I'd warned them in advance what I was going to do and even sent them my checklist.

As a result of the preparation my wife and I spent 7 hours (no kidding) checking everything on our 315RLTS. Campers Inn never once hurried me or asked me to sign anything. (I didn't need to put down any money to "hold" the camper, either.)

It's been awhile and I haven't updated it since I took delivery (Jul 18) but the attached should give you an idea of what we did. (I tried to upload the excel version but the forum won't allow me--so it's a PDF version.)

One more thought: don't forget to look under the trailer. If it wasn't kept clean of road salt (it is winter!) you'd be amazed at how quickly the underside can get severely corroded.

Not sure what I did wrong the first time--try it now.

howson Thanks works now. Very comprehensive list. Will take time to go over it this weekend and see if there is anything I can add to it for both my self and others.

          Hey, Just curious -
Your list is very detailed, nicely done.

            315RLTS: The First Day

Forgive the wordiness as this may get long, but thought I'd jot down a few notes from the PDI and first day in the hope it helps someone else.

First off, THANK YOU to everyone ...who helped get Fran and me to this point in time. Your unselfish willingness to prod me when I was way off base (think truck) and then answer my seemingly endless questions is very much appreciated.

            DEALERSHIP
Campers Inn in Macon, Georgia did a great job. No games, no high pressure, and very patient. The entire delivery was scheduled for two hours. Seven and a half hours later we rolled out of the dealership. Brian, our PDI guy, never complained or asked me to hurry up. I found his boss in the service department before departure and made sure she knew what a great job he'd done. Robin Horton was our salesman. (He was so excited--our Reflection was the first he'd sold.)

            PDI FINDS - CRITICAL
--Couch cushion had been punctured and someone tried to repair it with a smear of goop. Couch is getting replaced. (On order--have to return to get it fixed.)
            • Couch was repaired by a mobile furniture repairman about four weeks later when we were back near the dealership to see the grandkids. The puncture is fixed and the couch looks almost new. On very close inspection you can still see what I'll call a "stain" from the original repair attempt, but it's good enough.
-- Couch wasn't assembled correctly, could not lay it out flat. Fixed on the spot (FOTS).
-- Caulking on the front vertical seal, utility slide had completely failed. Seal had slid down about 4" and would move at the touch of a finger. (FOTS)
-- Seal on the outside, underbed storage does not meet up. There's a good 1/2 to 1" gap. Seal is on order.
-- Foam that is sprayed around drains poking through bottom had separated. (There wasn't enough.) FOTS
-- Incomplete seal on roof where ladder is attached. (It was a very small hole, but it was there.) FOTS
-- Incomplete caulking on seal on top of living room slide. FOTS

            PDI FINDS - MINOR
-- Multiple minor interior issues (screens, one drawer, etc) all FOTS.
-- Brake wires were rubbing against suspension. As an aircraft maintainer, chafing is a no-no. They added wire loom as an interim measure. I'll go back later and see if I can make it more permanent.
-- Water in front storage compartment (in the lower drainage trays). Brian claimed that was from aggressive pressure washing. We'll see...there was no evidence anywhere else I could find of water leakage so I took him at his word. He was right.
--Yep, the keys are CH751 and R001. Glad I read the thread about changing the locks--that will be high on my "to do" list when I get home.
-- Front storage access from inside the bedroom does not sit flush. Carpet was not cut neatly. (I'll fix at home.)

            IMMEDIATE MODS
-- Added MaxxAir vents (dealer installed) This was dumb to pay for this install--super easy to do but I didn't know at the time.
-- Added bug screens to water heater inlet and exhaust (self installed)
            -- Added Valterra valve
-- LevelMatePro is on the schedule for day 2, along with the electronic propane level checker things .

            IF I DID IT AGAIN...
-- I'd bring a lunch. It was a long day.
-- Bring a change of clothes and towel. (I took a shower in the dealers facilities after the PDI. I was a mess!)
-- Cooler with lots of cold water. Almost overdid it...I was feeling a bit woozy by the end of it all.

            HEAD SCRATCHER
-- Water pressure at the kitchen sink seems low. Took off head and a solid stream comes from line. Not sure what going on there...
-- Extending the legs threw off the trailer's level a bit. Have to get better at that whole process.
-- Couldn't figure out if the dump handles needed to be IN or OUT. They were all out, and as I found when I took the waste cap off that meant they were open! (Thankfully it was only water from the PDI.) All of them are in now, since we'll only be here a day or so. Oh boy was I a newb...

            TOWING
-- Drove 15.5 miles and didn't hit anything! Dealership set up Blue Ox at 8 links. Front end of truck seemed light. Will need to play with the adjustments. Little did I know how much work that would be to get my setup "just right"!

            FIRST SETUP EXPERIENCE
-- Whoever suggested a breaker bar and socket for the Blue Ox was spot on. Getting disconnected was quite the chore with the standard tool Blue Ox supplied. One word: Strapteks!
-- The Andersen Levelers worked great. Very easy to level side-to-side.

Final thought: Fair Harbor RV Park is right off I-75 in Perry, Ga. Nice campground with super friendly people in the front office. But be prepared for the sonic booms! The F-15 undergoes heavy maintenance at Robins AFB and one of the in-flight tests is going supersonic. Just heard one for the first time in a long time--BBBOOOOMMMM! it's awesome.

-------------------- End of Post from Jul 18 -----------------------------

            Hope that helps.
