Noted that was your first post, so please take a moment and check out the Welcome Letter to New Members at https://gdrvowners.com/forum/main-fo...to-new-members

I hope you're taking care to make sure Dinky II isn't tied to the bumper before departing rest areas while towing your Reflection? (A National Lampoon "Vacation" reference for the uninitiated...)

    Seriously, welcome!

I think most are overthinking the bike rack situation. I have a 22MLE and it's the third RV I have had a bike rack fitted to the rear ladder. Cost is about 50 dollars from Amazon and I have carried two adult bikes on it for several thousand miles. I placed some additional U-bolts to make more securely fastened to the ladder. I will post a picture soon. See it here. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Best to check the reviews on the "ladder bike rack". Just in the first few reviews were people that almost lost their bikes en route.... even two kids bikes broke the rack support.

Has anyone come up with a system to carry a 50 pound ebike?

Just camped with a 4 plus decade friend and his wife last weekend who carries 2 - 50 or so lb. Trek Ebikes on the hitch on the back of their 2018 337 Reflection. I will get with him to find out what rack they have and share that.

I wish they'd make an enclosure specifically designed for two e-bikes that inserted into a 2" hitch. I haven't pulled the trigger on new bikes because currently I have no way to adequately protect them from the elements. I've seen multiple reviews (Changing Lanes, etc) of a popular RV version bike, but that one (and all the others I've reviewed) have caveats about exposure.

We hauled 2 regular bikes on the back of our 337 this winter, roughly 2500 miles with no issues. We have a Thule rack with the hoops that the tires sit in and a J-hook to secure them down. I have to do some finagling with handle bars and seat in order to get them nested together without rubbing. I also use small bungees around the hoops/wheels to help hold them down and use a 1/4" rope to tie them to the rakc and prevent as much shift as possible. The rack has a bolt on the part that goes into the receiver in order to avoid any slop that would allow the entire rack to shift.
I made a cover out of an inexpensive tarp, I folded it over and rolled the edges a couple of times then made a hole through that area with a nail I heated. I run that every 8 inches or so with zip ties. We call it the "taco" since it fits over the bikes like an upside down taco. It only costs a few dollars and it lasted the entire trip. The rings around the bottom opening allow me to tighten the cover on the bottom kind of like a hood.

Randall - Our friend shared that they use a Thule XTR series in this link: https://www.thule.com/en-us/bike-rack/hitch-bike-racks Theirs is the prior version just a little different with apparently the loading or carrying height as Ron shared.

The disclaimer (at least on the one our friend has) as with many racks on the back of a trailer says "Do not install to a trailer or other towed vehicle." Ron is retired Army/National Guard leading vehicle maintenance (I think) and has a pretty good grasp on ensuring things are done right and safely. He has his hitch and carrier mounted together to ensure no movement as well as the bike "tied' down" to ensure the same.

Howard - Our friend Ron, shared with me in a conversation today that he had conversations with both our top rated retailer and Trek about their bikes most likely getting wet when traveling down wet/rainy roads mounted behind their towed fifth wheel; sitting outside; etc.; and both shared with him the bikes are made for that. They shared to not submerse in water and Ron shared with them that he has never pulled his RV through a lake, river or ocean and does not plan to now either.

Ron shared that their bikes have been wet several times and at least twice being towed in heavy rains for many miles. No performance, electrical, mechanical, etc. issues have occurred either.

Possibly you want to have similar conversations with the appropriate company reps. from the bikes you and Fran may be interested in to learn more to your satisfaction.

my issue regarding a bike rack for my 17MKE Imagine is that it has no built in hitch. Also Grand Design says Not to attach anything to the rear bumper.
So for right now, I am carring both bikes in my truck bed using the Yakima tail gate pad.
Maybe it is possible to have the trailer bumper reinforced to attach a hitch receiver for a bike rack??

Randall I would think you could, but it would not be supported from GD. It would also probably void your frame warranty. I would recommend a over the tongue rack.

The bumper is very thin were it most likely would need to be replaced with something heavier and properly tied into the frame. But as Neil stated, GD will not support that and your warranty could be in jeopardy if there is a frame related issue. Frame mounted receivers are available but could still affect the warranty.

Randall there are bumper reinforcing brackets available from places like etrailer. Basically it comes down to the wall thickness on the bumper is so thin and weld is, well lets face it not inspection quality. More than likely GD knows the bumpers are there for compression (something hitting the trailer like a small tree) or stinky slinky storage only. Bike rack loads are giant torque arms that result in tearing the weld from the top down.
