  • Portable Air Compressor

I am in search of a portable air compressor to air up the truck and RV tires if needed. I have read quite a bit and it seems the VIAIRs are highly rated but also expensive. I am looking at the 300P for $150 which isn't bad. Will this one do the trick? There are several GSPSCN compressors on Amazon that have mixed ratings.

    Thanks.

Having done my fair share of research on air compressors, the first thing I went and looked for was the duty cycle. The 300P has a 33% duty cycle, which means 20 minute running, 40 minutes off. The specs show 30 minutes of continuous use is possible at 30 psi and 72F, but you'll use it way more strenuously than that. I really dislike when things turn off when I need them to work.

    My .02--keep looking.

FYI, I'm not a fan of the 450P, either. See https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...owing-30a-fuse

A couple of other threads for your reading pleasure:

In one of the threads I mention the Fortress compressor. If you have 120vAC available this is an awesome little compressor--and quiet. I bought one to replace the "pancake" unit I had in the garage that was way too loud. (Painfully loud.) If you have the storage space in the RV or truck, and A/C power, the Fortress is highly recommended.

Thanks. I would have 120vAC from the RV but I also have a 110 outlet wired in my F150. Would that work also? I think I would mainly use to make sure the tires are at optimum pressure before I pull out but may need for emergency purposes, what ever that may be.

The small inverter in my F350 will not power a 120vAC compressor. I don't know about your F150 but I doubt it. You'll have to compare the specs in the two manuals.

I didn't go for the Fortress for my portable needs due to space constraints and the power issue in the truck. (I always have the compressor since it is hard mounted in the bed, thus 12v was the only option for me.)

I was looking at this one for an emergency tire fill, reviews says it gets hot but not planning on using this except for rv and truck if needed. https://www.harborfreight.com/12v-150-psi-compact-air-compressor-63184.html

Well I think I could qualify for the air compressor of the month club because I have several in both 120v and 12v.

I carry this 120V model in my truck for airing up the tires and also blowing out the water lines and hoses. I like it overall for it's size and portability. I keep it in a file crate along with the hose and fittings. It looks like they are having a clearance on them so it may not be available.

I also carry a Bauer portable inflator (which I bought first) that I use for airing up the tires. I like it because it is battery powered, (or 12 volt) and I can set the desired pressure and it will stop when the pressure is reached. (It actually goes about 1-1 1//2 psi above before it stops, but it ends up at the set pressure). The downside to this one is duty cycle. I think it's max run time is 10 minutes on and then a long cool down period. However, I have never run over the 10 minutes and I can usually top off all four tires with it. Oh... and the battery is not included. I used the 1.5 amp/hr battery as I had it for another Bauer tool. This one will air up tires but won't blow out lines and hoses.

            I hope this is helpful.

P.S. I think this is going to be the next one I add to my collection... LOL!

I have this one tucked in the pass-through and I use a Ryobi 18v handheld for topping off.

I have all Ridgid tools and thought I'd give this a try: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-1...7044/313257505

I am beyond pleased with it. I love the "set it and forget it" feature. It also comes with a cord so if your 18v batteries are dead you can plug it in to a cig lighter.
