Ouch - why are the sockets so expensive?

After searching through numerous threads the information I am lacking is brand and model impact guns folks are using. Common element is 1/2" drive and proper impact sockets. What I am not seeing is the torque needed (size of unit). I have a 2.5 gallon air tank at 145psi with a good 12v Viair compressor available if that makes an air unit possible. I also have 18V Makita batterys and charger available too. So whats better air or battery powered? What brand and models are folks using?
Any information would be great as I know next to nothing about these except they are loud.
Thanks
Keith
BTW I do have a torque wrench for final tightening.
The best and most powerful pneumatic impact guns are made by Ingersoll Rand IMO. Today's gun puts out over 900 ft-lb.
I still have my original that was purchased in the 70s. For electrics? I have no experience with them but hear positive comments from users that have them.
Here is one IR example:

Guest Jim, I treated myself to one of these a few years back https://aircat.com/aircat/impact-wre...-impact-wrench 1,295 ft*lb of get off of there. I use it to run nuts back on the truck and trailer. Just blip the trigger so it does not hammer (being lazy on spinning the lug nuts back on) just spins. If I let it hit 1 - 2 times that puts the torque on the truck lug nuts to about 80 ft*lb.
This thing for a battery op 1/2" impact is just ruthless. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Produc...enches/2767-20Joseph

Nice stuff! If I were in the market for a gun, the electric would be a tempting. But I'm always concerned about the cost of replacement batteries. I had a Bosch drill years ago that was excellent but the cost of a replacement battery resulted in it being tossed in the trash. Milwaukee is a great brand among others.
Unrelated but there is another storm here out of the north and boats are twisting in their moorings violently. Sitting here watching the show and hoping for the best for everyone.

You will find that the little 18V 1/4" Makita impact driver will generate over 80 lb-ft of torque . . . getting well into the range where you can take over with your torque wrench for tightening. You would still need a breaker bar for loosening.

Update
Well I went and did it. Found it on sale at https://www.farmandfleet.com/product...d-charger.html Tool, 2 batterys, charger and case.
$100 off ($349) if you get a $25 add on which I actually needed https://www.farmandfleet.com/product...drive-set.html so $75 off total. I had called around before ordering to find out what usually happens towards Black Friday from various sellers and all said $50 to $75 off then. So now I can tackle the baler and not bust my knuckles. SWMBO did not say anything either - a good thing. I got my ladder extension from there folks so know they are reliable and will handle any issues. Free shipping too.

I might consider one of these https://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-1...211B/310782220 since the batteries are also covered under lifetime warranty.Joseph

Well to close this out. I was lucky to find a sale - with a great one time use coupon I scrounged up.
https://capritools.com/shop/1-2-driv...ct-socket-set/
This set will primarily be for home use - hay baler, etc
Then I got this for the lug nuts to carry with me.
https://capritools.com/shop/impact-flip-socket-set/
Everything is in stock and not stuck in a container ship. A lot of sites are showing out of stock on this and other brands you have recommend.
I also picked up at Zoro these (using a rare 25% coupon that actually worked - a lot of theirs are product specific.
https://www.zoro.com/capri-tools-12-.../i/G900459455/ I plan to use the 80 lb stick and then finish with my torque wrench on the lug nuts
and
https://www.zoro.com/capri-tools-14-.../i/G100017110/
I will carry it and use it with my small Makita impact driver. I am finding that due to its compact size it is my go to tool - especially for my projects in removing the belly fabric - just need to be careful as it can snap those fasteners off. It also breaks my cheap craftsman sockets. This is the set I will carry too and not take my Craftsman set that is incomplete. The box on the set is very well made and compact - takes up less space too.
Thanks Folks

Just to add something different to the discussion- I carry a Rigid Tools compact impact that gives about 225 ft/lbs of force and a 24” 1/2” break bar and 19mm and 17mm 6 point sockets, a ten ton bottle jack, and a four way. I had one of the Westlake tires throw the belt and when I went to take off the lug nuts, I could only get 5 of the 6 off. The chrome cap had stripped off of the high quality two piece construction lug nuts provided by Grand Design. Once the caps strip off the lug nuts, it will round them off and they’re 17mm underneath. I had to call out a tire service to get that last lug nut off since I didn't have a 17mm 6 point socket with me (but did have one at home). Replaced all of the lug nuts after that (every one of them was cracked and on the way to stripping off). This was the first time lug nuts had been removed since I owned the trailer ( one year).
A lot of rambling to get to my point, but Home Depot sells a set with a Rigid drill, compact impact (about 225ft/lbs), 2 batteries, and a charger for about $140 and Home Depot warrants them for life (including batteries) and repairs them at their stores that have tool rental centers. I’ve had good experiences with the warranty with a five year old drill repaired and one battery replaced so far.Eddie & Kathy
