  • QuickClick Compact Plus Load Height Measuring Stick (Mini-Review)

Bought this due to a Black Friday sale (something I'd had on the "wish list" for awhile). Source was https://www.truckntow.com/quickclick...o-15-feet.html

    Overall impression: "meh".

Funny how such a simple device can cause me to scratch my head. For instance, the hinge mechanism had me stumped on how it opened to 90 degrees so I called tech support. I was told "just pull it--it will go". I did and then I had metal shavings in my lap as the pivot head's teeth ground themselves from square to bevel. The guy on the phone was incredulous, "It did WHAT?". He offered a replacement but I declined. (Now we both understand the directions printed on the side, aka "pull it towards you then turn"). It actually works easier now and still locks in place just fine.

The second issue was me stuck in a paradigm--I assumed the poles that extended for length would lock in place by twisting (like an extension rod). Nope. Once that was figured out I played with the QuickClick and found it works...like a long (expensive) stick.

Does have a nice storage bag, though.

So bottom line is it does what it claims to do. If I'm ever in a sketchy spot or doubt clearance I now have a gadget that will allow me to double-check before tearing off an air conditioner or damaging the roof.

I don't know Howard - I have the cheaper version in the clear plastic bag that splits easily. However I sure don't look as good as you using it. I keep it handy just in case my uncalibrated eyeball say OOPS - better check first. Mine work once I figured out how to read it. Like you implied - better than nothing. Now if you want to spend money I ran across a lazer one the other day in a trucking magazine.....only about 6x the cost of the one you got.

    Merry Christmas

A home built version . . . I once watched a guy assemble an interesting version of this. While his wife checked in at the campground office, he quickly assembled a large T made of lightweight plumbing PVC, that mounted to a hitch receiver on the front of his truck. They then proceeded into the campground led by a “measuring stick” the height and width of the trailer.

That's about what I was thinking about, connectable 1 1/2 PVC that I could attach to the front of the truck. I'm not worried about the width.

I can see where width would be quite helpful as some campgrounds tend to have low hanging branches on the roadway that could clip the edge of the roof and cause a nasty tear. Creativity with those furniture couplings where you can make a 4 way to mimic the roof line and the AC line.
