  • Maybe you don’t know you have a special hose clamp tool

I was helping a friend track down a leak today, and as we re-routed some sloppy plumbing in his trailer he was cussing the flathead screwdriver that kept slipping off the hose clamp he was tightening. With a multi-bit screwdriver. I told him to just pull the bit out and use the shaft as a nut driver. He was floored. Even after we were done he was still talking about how many times he’d tightened little hose clamps and never thought to use the screwdriver like that.

To translate his comments to English from Master Chief, “I cannot believe I was a Master Chief on 5 different ships and never once thought to use a screwdriver like that”. I had to remove 5 expletives from his sentence to post it here, but I’m sure if you’ve ever heard a Master Chief get worked up you can reinsert them in your head.

If you are like him, it will make your day the first time you do it!

I have a Irwin multi screw driver that has 2 different sizes of hex, 1/4" and 5/16" so that has come in real handy and the go to tool in the RV with flat and phillips along with the square drive ( I have also incorporated Sailor talk into some of my repairs as well).

        Ha Ha. Cool story.
I use one of these...cuz I'm an electrician and it's pretty much the only brand we use....lol. But it's the best multi-bit I've ever used mainly because it's not too stubby like most multi's and the tube for the screw tips has two different nut driver sizes.

thanks for the reminder. I knew that, yet seeing it here reminded me I used to know that. Regarding the Klein 6 in 1, if that came with the Robertson heads as well it would be even better.

My father in law is an electrician and got me hooked on the Klein tool series. My choice of multidriver is the 11 in 1, which does include Robertson, which comes in handy in Canada or on the RV

                LOL

I stumbled onto that last weekend when I was trying to assemble my Retrax cover. I to have a multi bit screwdriver, and had a hex shank socket on it. Well the socket stuck on a nut (did not notice) and when I went to the next the end of the driver fit the next nut. After all theses years I had never thought to try the screwdriver hex end by itself, Now I know.

There are different models. I have two, and one has large and small slot, #2 philips, and #2 Robertson.

I have and use the 11 in 1 https://www.kleintools.com/catalog/m...l-sq-torx-bits for the camper. I think it has 3 different nut driver sizes and 8 different bits.

I'm always amazed at the number of people that never think to use a nut driver or socket to tighten hose clamps. I use a screw driver a lot of the time but but if the slot is oddly shaped, out come the sockets and the 1/4" driver ratchet.

They also make a very hand multi-nut driver as well. Very small form factor.
