  • What Is This Fire Iron Used For?

What is this used for, why have I been carrying it in my camper all these years?

        Hi Tom,

I think those are forge tongs used in the oldin days when blacksmiths forged by hand, but also can be used as fire tongs.

Yes, apparently they're fire tongs. I have no recollection on how these came to be in my camper, when if ever I may have used them, and a week too late to put them on the Rally swap table. Free for the asking, just come get them. Currently in the KOA, Branson, MO.

You can also use them to fetch a beer out of the refrigerator so your fingers don't get chilly.

I can think of several things to do with them. More than likely they were left behind at a campsite and being the packrat that most campers are, they got noticed and put into the basement with the rest of the stuff.

                  As for things:
Sewer cover removal (keep you out of line of fire when pulling the cover at campgrounds
Sewer tube holder for the other half of the party so they don't get their hands dirty
reaching anything in or under the camper vs crawling around in the basement or on the ground
                  Joseph

Good suggestions all around. This KOA doesn't have fire rings but the next campground we stop at that does gets a free set of fire tongs. And the next packrat can say, "Hey, I can use these".

Yes, brings back memories. Used tongs similar to those to heat up meals. While stopped in the middle of nowhere, would leave the Huey turbine running, punch a hole in a tasty C-Ration can of chopped beef. Thirty seconds in the 600 degree exhaust and bon-appetit. I'm sure the JP-4 fuel added to the overall culinary experience.
