  • Best battery powered sawzall - reciprocating saw recommendation.

    During my Alaska trip at one campground I watched a camper use a small sawzall to cut std firewood to fit a high efficiency compact cooking wood stove (smokeless) they were using, but that is another post someday. I think the saw was a Milwaukee brand (red). Slick quiet small saw. With Black Friday coming up I was thinking to have one on the might get list. I have Makita 18V and Milwaukee 18V batterys available. I have only used the full size corded sawzalls. I have a Dewalt (big, heavy, and uncomfortable to use). Is there much of a difference between brands for those that have them - looking for something compact, works well, and easy to use. And hopefully not to expensive

    Thanks

      LOL - great link Edit - here is the full list. https://www.youtube.com/c/ProjectFarm/videos

      BTW the smokeless compact wood stove looked something like this, but had a flat top accessory and door to feed from the side. https://solostove.com/en-us/p/grill If I remember correctly they were from eastern Canada. They were the talk of the area withe the great breakfast smells. They had it set up inside the fire ring.

        Milwaukee makes great tools IMO. Ryobi much less so. A friend by us is a contractor and uses Milwaukee tools and has drills, impact drills, chain saw and saw zaw and a radio produced by them. Their step drill bit is the best out there too.

        Dewalt makes great tools as well.

            I picked this little booger up not too long ago. It does do the job quiet well. I've used my SnapOn sawzall in the past to shorten firewood to fit better in our Solo stove and even with aggressive blades it took a lot longer than this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7DR1JH4...t_details&th=1

              Thanks, but I am looking for a multitasker I can use to cut metal/wood in the shop too.

                  Hi Keith,

                  You can’t go wrong with the Makita 18V tool. Every bit as powerful as the corded version . . . and (unfortunately) every bit as heavy. But, the weight of the tool makes it a solid base for the action of the blade. With an assortment of easily interchangeable blades, this saw can cut just about anything.

                      With ours we've added the spark arrestor, the ground ring, the poker and wood tongs and the metal lid over time with their sales they have. Neat thing about hauling. I put my five gallon bait bucket in it, then our propane fire pit on top for hauling, rides real nice. Our stove is nearly black from use. I really like the lid because once we are down to embers and no fire we can put the lid on and call it a night. Very safe and user friendly. But yes, they are not cheap. Saw the bonfire at Costco for $199 lately.

                        I'm interested in the Yukon 2.0 model. Neighbor has one and it really works well. It burns hotter so it will go through more wood.

                          Keith, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Pick the brand you plan on keeping the batteries the longest for. If the batteries for the Dewalt are newer and you use them less, then go for the Dewalt. All I know is all of the ones I have had seem to get abused.

                          Either way, you will find https://www.lowes.com/pd/SKIL-The-UG...ing/5005330277 to be one of your best friends. I had to stop buying them to keep my saw from getting abused by others when I was not home. I can't tell you how many blades I have come home to U shaped coved in MUD.

                            You know how you can just sit and stare into a fire? The flames around the upper edge of the solo make it even more interesting.

                            @yoda

                            Dewalt makes a smaller sawzall now. I have Dewalt cordless tools. I stick with them because I don't want to double up on chargers and batteries.
                            The competition would have to come out with a real game changer to get me to buy theirs now.

                              Here is the best metal cutting blade. Had a locking hitch pin that corroded over winter and the torch blade cut it off in seconds.
