When we picked up our 2022 GD 280RS in July, it was set up to use the turning point with our 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500HD (6-1/2 ft bed) and a B-W 18k Patriot hitch. I could easily turn it by hand to the left, but turning it to the right was much harder.
By October, after about 3000 miles of towing, the hitch would not turn to the right. As we pulled into our (passenger side of course) space at a campground, it would not turn. The resistance of trying to push the trailer into the space vibrated truck and trailer. Finally got it parked and called Lippert.
LCI said to contact a mobile service to determine the cause. Only problem with that was that not a single mobile service wanted anything to do with a hitch at any price.
LCI then said just replace the entire hitch. No GD dealers in the area would even schedule a repair since we bought the trailer 200 miles away. LCI shipped the hitch to the dealer near home where we bought the trailers and I removed the wedge and locked the hitch in place.
Safely delivered the trailer and the hitch was replaced. But the new hitch not only can’t be turned by hand, it couldn’t be turned using the dealer’s forklift.
I know that I will give up the ability to make tighter turns using the turning point, but leaving it locked out means one less point of recurring maintenance.
