  • Rotating the electric tongue jack control?

Hi. I bought a Ford Expedition in September and the back hatch door hits the switch on the electric tongue jack and can’t open. Can the control box be rotated slightly to allow clearance? Or, do I need to rotate the entire tongue at the attachment point? Is a 10,000 lb, 7 1/2” long hitch extender a safe option? Also, how do I update my vehicle on this site? Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't use an extension. It just moves the trailer out farther from the axle. I would rotate the jack. I have seen people who have done it just not sure how they did it. I am sure someone will chime in and provide a how to on this.

My son had the same issue with his SUV and pop up trailer. I just rotated the jack and it gave him about 3/4" of clearance to open the hatch.

There are several styles of electric jacks. Some the head can be rotated easily, some require tapping, and some you are stuck with rotating the whole assembly something like 120 degrees.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5S4u0bikvI is an example of rotating one style.

You might find this discussion interesting... I was able to rotate my stock tongue jack with my 200MK/Ford Ranger and get enough clearance. When I updated the tow vehicle to a F-150, even that did not clear. After much research looking for a jack that would clear, with no luck, I finally went with the Jack-e-Up.

Thank you everyone! I ended up rotating the whole assembly 120 degrees for now. I will need to have a friend drill a hole when I get to Arizona.
