Moderator Note: See https://gdrvowners.com/towing-and-hi...ch-mine-failed for a real-world experience with the Weigh Safe (IMPORTANT!)

    Hello,

I'm new to the forums but not GD

We had a 2017 2150RB that I towed with our 2016 Canyon for a couple of years.

We have a motorhome now but feel kind of confined to the campgrounds and would like to go back to TT.

Our future TV is a 2019 Silverado with 5.3L Ecotec3, 3.23 axle rated for 9600 lb.
    Trailering Label says:
    GVWR 7100
    GCWR 15000
    GAWR RR 3800
    Payload 1717
    Curb W 5383

Going to the Spring Show to get a good look at:
    2500RL, GVWR 7495, so 12% TW would be 899
    23LDE, GVWR 6995, so 12% TW would be 839
    22MLE, GVWR 6995, so 12% TW would be 839

I think I didn't know any better and overloaded the canyon once or twice and want to be safer this time around. It had a Reese pro series 750 Lb TW hitch with friction sway.

I did eventually get a Sherline scale so I can get tongue weights now.

I am looking to see if anyone has used the weighsafe WDH with smaller TT like we are looking at, seems a bit overkill rated for 15000 but I really like the built in scale.

Other WDH I would think might be good for this would be an Andersen or BlueOx SwayPro or TrackPro maybe. I found the Reese noisy and messy with the grease

    Regards,

    John

When I switched from a FW to a TT in 2016, I did a ton of research on hitches. Based on the info at the time, I chose the Blue Ox Swaypro. I've put between 25K to 30K miles on the rig now, and I've never had a hint of sway. I've also towed in 35 MPH side winds and the rig pulled pretty well. If I was purchasing another hitch, I'd stick with Blue Ox based on my experience.

It sounds like you’ve really done your research. We have a 23 LDE pulling with a 2018 Ford F-150 CC King Ranch 157” wb with 3.5 eco boost rated for 11,500 and payload of 1717 lbs. We are using the Equlizer 4 point sway control weight distribution hitch. It’s an okay hitch, but a bear to set up and very noisy and messy. We wish we had know about WeighSafe hitch when we bought ours. Trailer handles well just wish the bedroom wasn’t so tight. The second hitch we considered is the Andersen but no one had one locally. A friend has the Blue Ox and highly recommended it but it also was not available when we bought.

Like TucsonJim I have the BlueOx SwayPro and love it... clean, quiet and easy to tweak, when needed. My 2017 Silverado is spec'd very similar to your intended TV. My 2021 2400BH has a GVWR of 7495lbs and occasionally sees 900lbs on the tongue when loaded. I use the BO 1000lbs bars and have no issues with sway or truck wash. I've only used the Blue Ox (on the current 2400BH and on a previous GD 2150RB) so can't give you a comparison with the others you are considering. I can say, like Jim, I would invest in the Sway Pro again.

I towed our Ultralight with the BlueOx and had no issues. Truck and trailer moved as a single unit almost. Towed through west and north Texas no issues.

I don't know which hitch Howard (howson) has, but he recommends and if I go back to a Tongue pull I will replace the chains with StrapTek. Not for the fait of wallet, but definitely a much better option to both the equalizer lift on torque bars and the chain systems out there. https://store.lci1.com/straptek-weig...-system-335852

Just did an in-depth hitch review I decided top three were Pro-Pride (but not for me), Weigh Safe. And Anderson. Had three different WDH over my 42 years of towing. Just ordered the Anderson. Not heavy, not noisey, lifetime warranty, great reviews. Also I like the 2500RL out of those three. Welcome and good luck.

I looked for six months then I went with the weigh-safe WDH. There customer service was great and it all showed up at my house in a week. I will tell you up front the hitch that I have (the first link below) is heavy and built like a tank. I actually said to my wife that I thought i screwed up buying this hitch, then I towed with it for the first time and it was 200% better then anything else I have towed with. I have a imagine 2670MK and with this hitch running up and down I-81 with all the tracker trailer was so much better. I love this hitch ans show it off all the time. The app you use to help you set it up is great. Weigh-safe does now offer a mid-range weight hitch (the second link)

I would also tell you to watch this video it a great look at all of the best hitches out there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8eY-qbtuJU

The Weigh-Safe is an Equalizer with some excellent benefits. It takes the guesswork out of setup. Its adjustability on the fly is really valuable for optimizing changing loads. If I were starting over, I would buy this hitch.

Equalizer works well but I worked at it for a while to get it optimized. No truck suck. No sway. No noise. No porpoise.

Noise is completely eliminated with the Sway Bracket Jackets.

I've had a change of heart. After towing a few thousand miles this spring, I've encountered a ton of wind which is making our trips very uncomfortable. So I started researching again and have decided on switching from the Blue Ox Sway Pro to the True Tow Weigh Safe. I'll be hitting the road again soon, and I'll give my impressions.

I have been very happy with our Anderson. Got into some 45MPH winds in December, full crosswind, and it preformed very well. I could tell we were in some winds a little. It wasn't until we passed a Texas flag did I realize just how strong the winds were. (they just came up as we were on the road) I did need to back it off a bit until we got to our stop. It was interesting to see how in the winding roads the difference the winds effected the ride but I never felt unsafe or felt the need to call it quits early in the run.

                      Hey All,

So we went with the 23LDE and the Blue Ox.

The dealer kind of nudged us to the Blue Ox by telling us yes we could install the Anderson but... who would service it if any was needed.

                      Regards,

                      John

I've now put about 3,000 miles on the Weigh Safe hitch. To use an old cliche, it's a "game changer". It made a huge difference in our towing comfort and stability. Zero sway, zero truck suck, minimal porpoising, and much less white knuckle towing. Check out the YouTube channel Wandering Weekends for his real world test and recommendations of most popular hitches today.

I didn't like the dealer's WDH suggestion. We went with a Curt Tru-Track for our trailer. It took a bit to get dialed in, but no issues now. Take a look at Wandering Weekends' YouTube channel. He did a evaluation of 10 or 11 WDHs. If something happened and I got the chance to change WDHs, I would choose the Weigh Safe (middleweight) model. Good luck and safe travels.
