Ford new generation 6.7 and gas 7.3 fuel/gas mileage numbers.
Ford new generation 6.7 and gas 7.3 fuel/gas mileage numbers.
Has anyone seen any actual information on the new 6.7 fuel mileage and the new gas 7.3 Godzilla mileage yet. Any mechanical issues yet? Just wondering as the Chief CFO has indicated I may start putting my new truck together.
Thanks
Keith

Get the 6.7 Yoda....do it do it do it lol. I've driven an F250 with the new 6.7 and it's a whole new animal. The engine sounds noticeably "growlier" than my 2019 and much much more powerful. I drove one with 3:31gears and it was fast, can't wait for my F450 with 4:30 gears! I doubt the fuel mileage will be any different than the '19's, I get 9.5 -10 mpg towing and 17-18 on the highway not towing.

Or Yoda can buy your '19 Platinum dually(!) from you? It's very similar to my truck and it's fantastic in it's own right IMHO. We're not supposed to "love" things...but I kinda do love my truck.

Haha this is true! Yoda have I got a deal for you on a 6000 mile dually! lol

I have had bad luck buying used - no offense Howard. Jeff - I am now leaning that way with the 7.3 only getting 5-6 mpg towing and with the 40ish gallon gas tank that gives maybe a 200 - 250 mile range. Not good
Realist that I am, this will be my retirement tow vehicle which I plan to keep a while, just like my 04. In reading up on the previous 6.7's there are the EGR delete and the DEF delete available for after warranty. ( current problem areas) I am guessing in the next 5 years there will be one for this new generation 6.7. No need for a tuner.
I need to get an oil change so I will try and sit down with the service manager and get the real scoop. I may wait a year too, but it does not hurt to start planning and reading. I'm researching what options get what, like the camper package is the only way to get the rear sway bar. Ford now offers the skid plates separately rather then only with the FX4 package. Now I am trying to find a way to get the bed camera (one in third stop light) without getting everything else, So a chat with the fleet manager is on my agenda. I am in no rush - just looking for whatever information I can find.
We have our long term retirement trailer so now to get a dependable tow vehicle. Even though my 6.0 is now bullet proofed (ARB studs, EGR delete, injector pump spring kit and I forget what else. deep down I have a nagging feeling that now is the time for the new one.
Thanks folks - if you see a review / article on the new 6.7 or 7.3 gas please pass it along.
Now to get working on my seed starting for the garden.

I'm just playing with you Yoda, I'm trading the truck in when the new one arrives. All of the reviews and 1st impressions of the new Super Duty's are starting to hit the web now so you should find plenty to research, I'll be doing the same thing. After driving one I think Ford has another hit on their hands with the new 6.7 and the 7.3 so pick your poison. Find what's best for you for a retirement truck, that's exactly what I'm doing with the F450 and why I special ordered it. Good luck and enjoy whatever you get!

You might want to consider the Ram if having adequate cargo capacity is of any importance. I researched a lot of trucks and went from a 16 F-250SD Lariat to a 17 Ram 3500 Laramie and added a ton of cargo capacity. Literal ton, not artistic license ton. Ram long bed, Ford 6.8 bed, Both crew cab 4WD. Similar amenities.

Isn't that increase because you went from a 3/4 to a 1 ton? That's about the difference in payload between an F250 diesel and an F350 SRW diesel, 1000-1200 pounds.

Yes I did go 1T. Based on your figures if an F350 diesel adds 1000-1200# then my Ram 3500 added 2000# over the Ford F-250. These are not stripped down trucks, all were the upper-mid levels, Lariat vs Laramie. When I had the Ford I couldn't believe the "low" cargo capacity of the 3/4T F-250 SD. In 2017 Ford changed the 250 and 350 adding aluminum. I had a 2015 F-150 with the aluminum bed and components and it was about 800# lighter than the 2014 similar model with steel. The 17 250/350 don't get as much aluminum conversion as the 150 did and as I was told, the savings was around 300# over a 2016 steel version. Since I have my truck I haven't kept up with the more current models weights but in 16/17 model years the Ram 1T 3500 was rated significantly more than the Ford or GM products. That was verified by looking at a few dozen door jamb stickers. Besides, the fact is the Cummins is a great engine and my 2012 Ram 3500 was a great truck, I chose to be adequately equipped with cargo capacity. Oh and a great ride.

Check out TFLTrucks on youtube, they just did a comparison with the new F350 and GMC 3500 pulling 30k and the F350 smoked the GMC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ynru1jPiH6A
The GMC with 3.42:1 final drive is geared more for overall better fuel economy and as a result would not do as well, such as on the Ike. For those that travel the Ike each day they would be better off with the Ford if that's important to you to be a bit faster to the top and with 4 less brake applies. For those that would put emphasis on fuel economy, the GMC would be a better option.
Considering they both got the same gas mileage going up the Ike, and I live in Idaho were we have mountains, stuff like that is important to me anyway, also for just a little more than the GMC, the ford give more options for that outrageous price. I am a Ram guy and am not in the market for a new truck, but if I were, the Ford would be in the picture. Just my two cents.
Its all typically based on customer preference, price and operating costs. I just wanted to explain that an Ike test does not totally quantify a truck and that different final drive ratios can help or hinder under certain conditions. In the GMC case with a 3.42:1 it is working harder with less tractive effort while climbing the Ike. So to have the same FE on a grade tells me the FE off the grade would be better overall.
