Went camping last weekend and was finally able to hit the CAT scale with our setup. No organization to how stuff is loaded or anything yet. Pretty much just all put wherever it’ll fit. I think my numbers look good, but I was trying to figure where we are at on truck payload, cargo capacity. Which numbers tell you that?

*****Going “by the book”………Steer is front axle, drive is rear, those combined give the total weight the truck is carrying so with the trailer your truck is at 10,880 lbs so you have 420lbs of payload remaining (11,300 - 10,880).

GVRW on the sticker is 11,300 lbs so the combined weight of the truck on the axles should not exceed this amount.

pin weight is 2,660 lbs as currently loaded so the trailer altogether is 11,920 lbs.

GVRW on the trailer is 13,995 so you’ve got about 2k lbs of payload remaining on the trailer.

Numbers look good, if she’s sitting pretty level and pulls nicely you should be good to go.

How’s the 7.3 pull that weight? I’m right around 10k fully loaded and my gassers does well (previous diesel owner).

Gr8fulcamper! I was actually going to mention levelness next. When I measured it for level, the front was exactly 1” high. I had a regular B&W Companion hitch set to the middle height but never had a chance to get an accurate measurement to see how level I was. Happened upon a guy on FB Marketplace that had a slider and was wanting a regular, so for a couple hundred bucks we swapped bases. I set it up to the middle setting too, guess I’ll probably lower it to the bottom setting and should be darn close to level then. Will the height adjustment change my numbers at all? I don’t know, we have not had a travel trailer or 5th wheel before, so new to the game.

As far as the 7.3 pulling the 5th wheel, have nothing to compare it to since it’s new to us. To me, the few times we have pulled it, I think it does a great job. When we are close to retiring and if we decide that we want to travel and camp lots more, I’ll probably go with a duality and a diesel, but until then, sticking with the gasser. I have work van that I drive daily, truck sits in the driveway. Have had it for 6 months or so and only 3,536 miles on it. Think my lack of use would be more detrimental to diesel, so opted for the 7.3.

The 1" high at the front may not be that bad. Where did you measure this at? You do want 6" or more of bed rail clearance, 7" or 8" would be better. Having a little nose high or low does not move any of the weight, unless you are at an extreme angle low or high then it may impact weight but will certainly impact trailer tire load and wear.

When we were at the truck stop after using the CAT Scale. Figured the parking lot was as good and level place as any. Measured from ground to all 4 corners of the frame on the 337RLS. Was at 24 1/2” both front sides, and 23 1/2” both sides rear frame. I didn’t get super accurate, not down to the the 1/16th, but pretty close to 1” nose high. Did check bedrail clearance too, if I remember right, it was between 7”-8”. I was wondering if it was even necessary to drop hitch height for an inch, no big deal if it is, I just don’t know. I know there are lots more experienced people here that are really willing to help, so appreciate any and all advice.

I would not drop the hitch for that 1". If it handles well I would leave it alone. It sounds like you have things set up pretty well. Just remember when you start to move things around in the storage and inside the RV your weights will change. Adding a full tank of fresh water will change the weights as well.

Took me a few trips and CAT scales to learn how to pack our trailer and truck. Now I only go to the CAT scale when we pack differently and are going on a long trip.

Looks like you're doing things right. I would watch your front axel load. Wirth a 5th wheel, you're probably going to be fine. IMO, when you're within about 500#, you start watching it closer. This last trip we were under capacity by 420# of payload and 420# on the rear axle.....bur 840# on front axle.

Looking at your stickers, it's strange....., I have an F250 and my front axel is rated higher than your F350????

Odd, but your seating capacity says 3 front and 3 rear, mine is 2 front and 3 rear. I don’t know what truck you have, mine is in my signature. I didn’t order the snowplow package or anything. Is yours diesel?

On a side note, should I not be displaying my VINs in my pictures for some reason?

Mine is a 2020 F250 with the "bench" seat in front. It's a diesel.

I don't know that it matters showing your VIN, but I'm paranoid

I don't have the snow plow package, but do have the high capacity towing package.....wonder if that package upgrades the front axle or springs??

The high capacity tow package, that was the other package I couldn’t think of, I don’t have that either. It’s probably a combination of diesel and the tow package.

Current new models have a heavy duty front suspension option as a stand-alone. Another option which adds heavy duty front suspension is camper prep (slide-in).
