    Haha thanks Howard!

Yes, for sure. It was nice to feel in control of what was going on. Before the wind picked up it was fun and relaxing. Still wasn't half as stressful in the wind as the 150 was on a normal day.

Hi Mike! I've come back to check in on your results over the last few months. I have/had the same setup as you do (GD 2800BH + F-150 3.5 ecoboost). I've been emailing with Propride to get sized up for one of their hitches, but I see you've gone to the next level and beefed up the tow vehicle. That's great! But,I'm afraid that's not in the cards for me right now, especially. How much, would you say, the Propride helped the situation?

Like you, I love the design of the TT. It's great for my family. So, I'd really like this to get worked out with the F-150. I'm curious to know how much you pulled the rig with a (mostly full) tank of water? I'm wondering if the extra weight in the front might help even her out.

Forum hint: use "Quote" when responding (like I just did) so the originator of the message gets a notification (like you just did). Another way is to "tag" them, which is the @ followed by their user name, like this: MikeG90

Mike will get a notice that there's a message waiting for him now. (Mike--see post above!)
Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, we have nothing to gain should you choose to purchase a product or engage a service we discuss on this forum.

          Hi snovak ,

The ProPride helped quite a bit and I'd say if you're sticking with the F150 it's a must have. ProPride recommended the 1400 lb bars for the 2800. I'm curious to see if they recommend the same for you. I think the biggest difference I felt was in sway. It was pretty much gone. The rig behaved as one solid unit and the front end of the truck was less effected by the trailer. When the cross wind blew it would move the whole rig to the right or left rather than the trailer blowing left and the front of the truck heading right. The movements of the rig were much more predictable than without the ProPride.

That being said the trailer still had a pretty big influence over the truck so I wouldn't expect the PP to totally solve the issue but it will help a lot.

I never pulled the rig with a full tank of water. I think 1/3 or 1/2 was the most I ever pulled with and I can't comment on it because I wasn't doing a comparison.

I don't think anything about it was dangerous but I just wasn't comfortable and wanted a little more payload. We're planning on making some trips through mountains in TN, WV, and CO so that also played into my decision to buy a diesel. Many people like the gasser 3/4 tons for our size trailers but they do consume a lot of gas. Wandering Weekends on youtube has a breakdown of his gas vs diesel F250 experience that I found interesting.

          Anyway, I hope that helps!

            Hi Mike,

This helps, absolutely! Thank you. I really appreciate the conversation, and your approach to getting the setup to feel right. Brent, at Propride, recommended the 1400 for me also. I did ask him why not the 1000, as our setup does fall into the 1000 range on their chart. He said, with the added tongue weight of the Propride, it brings us deeper into the 1400 range, and it will provide more flexibility. Makes sense. He also mentioned that he talks to at least 1 customer per day with this exact same setup. So, we're not alone in this.

I figure, I'll go with the Propride 1400, as recommended. We're doing a summer trip from South Florida to Maine, with a number of stops along the way. That's a lot of road, and I've got a couple of young ones with us. Their safety and my peace of mind is worth the tall price tag.

If the wind doesn't steer the truck, it does sound like the Propride is working as advertised. I have yet to try other upgrades, the like aforementioned E-class tires, Bilstein/HDPP shocks, and/or rear sway bar upgrades. I think the hitch will make the biggest improvement, so I'll start there.

Frankly, I think Grand Design should package the Propride or Hensley with this TT. Especially if the owner is pulling with a truck like the F-150.

            Thank you again! Travel safe.

snovak Thats a nice looking rig!

I tend to agree with ProPride because our tongue weight was sitting at around 940lbs. The 1400lb bars give us a little more wiggle room.

I liked the way the E rated tires felt on the truck when towing. When I aired them up for towing it added just a little more stability in the rear end.

I think your idea of them packaging the hitch with the trailer is not a bad idea. At the very least they could mention it somewhere in the literature.

Please update us with your towing experience. I'm curious to see how you end up liking it.

I’m late to this party but been there done that.

Three years ago I bought a new F-150 XLT W/3.5EB and a new 2800BH using a Blue Ox WD hitch. It was scary towing. The trailer was always in charge.

I replaced the Blue Ox Spring bars, no appreciable change
I had Air Bags installed on the F-150, no appreciable change.
I bought a Propride hitch and it resolved 90% of the issue.

But by then my wife was gun shy and reluctant to go camping, fearing the trip would not be stable. This is a woman who isn’t easily intimidated have been a pilot with thousand of hours flying time. In the airplane she felt control but not towing the TT with the F-150.

                  So
I traded the 3 month old 2800BH in on a new Reflection 337RLS
i returned the Propride, cost me $400 in 2 way shipping.
I bought a new 2017 F350 Diesel CCSB with 3,500 lbs of payload and sold my 3 month old F-150 to my Brother in Law.

i only towed the 2800BH once with the F350, and that was with the Blue Ox, taking it 50 miles to the dealership to trade it in. The F350/2800BH towed really well, even when being passed by semi’s.

This combo F350/337RLS is Soooo stable I literally forget I’m towing at times. There’s absolutely no effect of being passed by semi's or towing in crosswinds.

2 years later I traded the 17 F350 in on a special ordered heavily optioned 2019 F350 Lariat with 3,523 lbs of payload. I wanted adaptive cruise, LED headlights and other goodies. Still have that combo and love it.

                  Here’s the F-150/2800BH

                  And here’s the F3509/Reflection 337RLS

You might stop by your Ford dealer. Mine has a video display with touch panel where you can actually input your VIN. It will list you trucks weight, let you input the trailer weight and give you vehicle capacity plus unused capacity according to your input. It is VIN specific.

Very helpful and non-biased resource for the consumer as it doesn't depend on the salesman's knowledge. Would be nice it that tool was also available online. Txfivver -- (Jeff) any insight you can add?

                        Hey All,

I would like to report my results with the Propride 3P. So far I've driven about 2000 miles with this setup on our summer excursion. I can verify that the Propride has cured ~95-100% of sway issues that I was experiencing before. Stoked!

I'm relieved that I ponied up the $$$ for this purchase. I honestly feel like it may have saved our lives. On our last leg, we had a catastrophic blow out, which I will to write a separate post about. In short, we were on I-81 in VA, doing 65-70 mph when it blew. After a huge BANG, I felt a bunch of vibration from the blown wheel tread beating the crap out of the RV wheel well and surrounding components. But, the RV tracked straight, no pull, no sway and we safely pulled off the highway. I think with anything other than the Propride (or Hensley) design hitch this could have been a real bad situation for me and my family.

                        We're still here.

I've attached a shot of the wheel.
