  • Solitude 380FL pin weight

Hello all, I currently ordered a 2020 solitude 380FL with the dry weight of 14,866lbs and hitch weight of 3,052lbs. I was wondering if anyone out there has loaded one of these trailers up and then checked pin weight. with the cargo storage locations in the rear and it being a front living room unit i'm wondering what the typical end result pin weight would be. I'm debating if I need a dually for this rig. Thanks you fellow campers

Welcome to Grand Design's Technical Forum, Vince. I'm sure there's someone here with your unit and that they'll chime in soon. Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

      Welcome to the Forum.

With a gross weight of 16800 your pin weight could be upwards of 4000. This , I think , would definitely put you in dually territory. Better safe than sorry.

I've had my 380FL for 5 months now and made four trips (about 1500 miles). I'm pulling the unit with a 2007 Ford F250 Super Duty but in order to keep the load supported I added a set of Air Bags. This has worked very well so the truck is level as well as the trailer landing gear has good ground clearance. Sure I'd love to have a 1 ton truck rather than a 3/4 but the Air Bags have done a great job.

Thank you, this is very helpful, I have a 2012 Ram 2500 with air bags as well, I also put high capacity wheels and tires so I hope its sufficient. I will load up the trailer in its heaviest situation and go to the CAT scales, hoping my rear axle weight stays under 7500lbs.

If I may make a suggestion? While you're there try to find a place to unhitch and weigh the truck without the camper attached, too. With both weight tickets the hitch weight can be calculated easily. (Truck should be full of fuel!)

Not sure if you have the Diesel or the gas version of the F250 but with my RAM 3500 SRW this would be a very borderline 5th wheel to pull as it is very pin heavy and I have 3830 lbs payload. Have you weighed your setup and verified that you are not over axle and tire weight ratings. Pretty sure you will be over your payload.

In looking at the Spec Sheet on this trailer the pin weight is listed at 3052#. Most of the storage areas are behind the axles so there would not be a substantial increase in pin weight. The F250 Diesel load rating is around 3500#. The Air Bags increase my load capacity some.
