  • Anyone tried the CURT BetterWeigh?

The BetterWeigh looks like it might be a great tool to have if it proves to be reasonably accurate. I'm not finding a lot of independent reviews and I wonder if anyone here has any experience or thoughts. Thanks

Have not tried it but was curious. I’d buy one to try it if I hadn’t already purchased a weigh safe hitch. Plus the BetterWeigh says reduced functionality for vehicles with air suspension and both my tow vehicles have air suspension.

Not sure about independent, but I’ve watched this guy for a while and he seems pretty decent. He didn’t pay for it with his own money, so take it as you will.

He seemed to not like it on his follow up video:

I'm currently waffling. I need to weight my tongue, I got a really bad bounce on my last trip, and I'm concerned I don't have things setup correctly (Can't tell if I'm light or heavy, too new at this). Nearest CAT scales are about 2 hours away.

It's cheap enough that I might bite, but if it's not accurate, I'm not sure how much it's worth it.

I have been thinking about this as well. Have not taken my truck or camper to the scales. Mostly concerned about cargo weight / tongue weight....but all the info would be interesting to know. 95% accurate sounds great...but 5% could be a fair amount if you are "closer" than you like. That's 300 lbs on 6,000.

I also do not like that it shows the weight in an analog format....want to know the weight it calculated exactly. I'm torn.

A clever device which will provide approximations based on F=ma (force = mass x acceleration) and using accelerometers to estimate weight based on pitch of the truck with known baseline information on weights and powertrain.

The force is determined from the provided torque values that are streamed though the diagnostic port.

This will be an estimation at best where many factors would go into this to gather an accurate measurement. For instance, if your trailer brakes were suddenly dragging (applying brakes to test this will not work), the dongle would estimate a heavier load based on acceleration at a specific torque output of the engine.
