Our Reflection has a 4 pin flat plug on the rear hitch. Which was just great until we traded boats and the new boat trailer uses a 5 pin.
Can the 4 pin on the trailer be changed to a 5 pin?
The 5th pin is for the reverse light signal . . . which is in your 7 pin umbilical from the truck, but not wired to the back of the RV. Your boat trailer probably needs this signal to disable its surge brakes when backing up . . . but, do you back up both trailers together? If so, you will need to run a wire from the junction box at the pin box of the RV to a new 5pin trailer connector at the back of the RV.
Thanks Rob, this boat trailer hitch has a stopper you can put in to keep the hydraulic from setting up when you back up.
Yes, but rob is right, on boat trailers they usually use the reverse wire to disable the surge brakes so you don’t need to insert the pin. We found we used the pin when backing to the ramp (I’m old school and always unhook the lights when submerging the trailer), but the electrical lockout was nice when parking somewhere out if I had to backup somewhere unplanned. I’m sure that’s what the fifth wire is for.
Likes Rob says you probably won’t be backing up both trailers often anyway.
