  • Rotated Power Jack Head

With a lot of hitches and travel trailers you can't fully open your tailgate because it will hit the power head buttons. So I rotated my power head 1/4 turn which now allows me to open my tailgate when hitched. It was an easy mod and there are a few videos on YouTube showing you how to do it. The hardest part was cutting threads in two holes but since the holes were already there even that wasn't difficult.

Here are before and after pictures.

I did the same thing on my son's pop up camper so they can open up the hatch on their SUV. Thanks for sharing this solution to a problem others may be having.

I thought it was a totally kewl mod. I don't often have to open the tailgate when hitched but it's come up a few times and it was a 15 min mod.

If anybody needs I can send them a link to a video with step by step directions.

        Ckreef,

Are you able to drive with the tailgate down with the power jack turned like that? If so, that is pretty nifty! Thanks!

I don't think you could drive with the tailgate down as the tailgate would hit the propane tanks in turns. If you were just pulling straight forward or backing straight up it would work.

Not drive your rig, but just open the tailgate to access the bed without ruining switch and tailgate.

I just remove my tailgate. 15 seconds off and 30 on. Less time and trouble to put it down and up and no headache.

This link gives a good step by step.

Make sure you have enough slack in the wire so you can get the head off. Also make sure you run the tap in nice and straight otherwise you'll have problems lining up the bolts after you rotate the head. Really easy project.

A big thanks. Cute video. Only thing I would add is, use a little oil on the tap just because. If one had a magnetic retriever you could fish that around as well to grab any shavings that may have fallen in. I'll be giving this a shot in the near future.

Mod complete, very easy. Had just enough wire to get the head off and turned. Had the tap and die set from years ago so that was easy too. I ended up with about a half inch clearance from the tailgate I'm please and I can now have great access to the truck bed.

I wish it would have been a 15 min mod for me. My LCI jack did not have the additional holes at 90 degrees. I had to drill them in addition to tapping.
